Hello Dora, I don't have any knowledge of hydrocephalus other than internet information. It's so difficult watching a poorly child, my heart goes out to you. I wish you all the best with your search for help, hopefully someone here will be able to provide a better answer than this to your question. Bless you

I am so sorry for this. The fluid could have damaged her brain in the parts that control these functions. Need follow - up with a neurologist. Did she get good rehabilitation? She need rehab. This condition in babies causes developmental problems and delays. The talking portion is puzzling. You caught and did the shunt, so you treated it, but she has speech delays. Have you had her hearing tested to make sure your auditory (ear) to brain function is working?

It's not normal, but there is more that can be done about it. Get with a neurologist, get some testing, and that will give you an idea why this is still an issue. Be blessed. I truly hope this helps. Hugs and kisses for your baby girl.

I am so sorry for you. Even being in the US, I've had a time finding a neurology specialist that treats and sub- specializes in my condition from a head injury. Neurologist are very few globally if you think about the handful of them available. It is harder I understand in Africa, which is astounding to me as to what I was taught in my classes is that neurology originated from Africa as a science and specialty. It's all about resources and funds that's holding back healthcare for all of us and the children seem to suffer the worse. This is a good teaching hospital in your area that a physician I know advised me of in this area. I don't know if you looked into it or not. It's a private hospital linked to a university and holds pediatric specialty clinics on a regular basis. Here is there contact information: Sefa Specialist Hospital

No.5 College Road

Kaduna

064-410-937. There was a missionary medical group that used to serve your area in the areas of pediatric surgery and pediatric specialties and if I remember of find that information I will give it to you. You are in my heart and prayers!

I'm sorry Dora, I know nothing about the healthcare in Nigeria. Do you have a general doctor who can help you to find a neurologist for your daughter ?

It seems she needs urgent help. x

HI Dora. Welcome to the site. I suffer from recurrent Hydrocephalus and have a Shunt also. I didn't have any knowledge of it until I was 14 though. Obviously I could talk, walk etc by then. But I'm not sure if it could slow development down to have Hydrocephalus diagnosed earlier. I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter but think you really need advice from a trained Neurologist. Best of luck.
