OK here goes

Discussion with audiologist today and it has been suggested that I may benefit from strategies/exercises under the heading of

CENTRAL AUDITORY PROCESSING DISORDER

Sorry this is short but still wobbly and headachy. Will try to research a bit more tomorrow to see what I can do to learn to listen.

Wishing everyone a wonderful day

Hi

Sounds interesting! I certainly suffer with over sensitive auditory problems since my BI, particularly bad on the left side, which is the side my brain is affected. I wear earplugs all the time, but like today the pain and ringing in my ear is not pleasant in the least!

Is this along the lines you are experiencing?

You have a good day too

Xx

Hi Sem

Mine is a bit different. I hear everything but don't know how to listen. High pitch is a killer as is volume.

I have just been provided with a filter and instructions on how and when to use it.

When I discussed ear plugs with my OT a long time ago I was told not to wear them all the time as it can create more sensitivity.

If I can find exercises I'll give them a serious try.

Hi Random,

Very helpful, actually : )

I felt a website coming on after the mention and have just learned that my inability to recognise the direction/source of sounds and make sense in a setting of competing or background noise could possibly be explained by this :

nhs.uk/conditions/auditory-...

To be honest, I have been blaming it all on tinnitus which I assumed had reduced hearing levels and caused these probs. So I now have a new avenue to research - thanks : ) x

You are welcome Angelite.

I was told that most of the information available is about children and that is OK with me as I am still learning.

Hope it brings you some relief.

I'm going to see an audiologist on Thursday regarding noise sensitivity. If I get any results I will post when I've been x

From my recent experience Copes it will help the audiologist to help you if you can be as specific as possible about types of noise or situations that you have most difficulty with.

Hope all goes well.

Sorry I have only just come across my post. I completely forgot to report on my appt. (One of my legacies from my SAH bad memory). SORRY - I saw the hearing therapist and she recommended a sound generator. It plays sounds such as rain and sea/waves. You play it when sleeping and it "teaches" your brain that noise is not harmful, which is what your brain thinks as a result of brain injuries. It has to relearn and the sound helps with this. Sounds bonkers but I have noticed an improvement. Not a great one but I am persevering with it. Hope this helps x

Hi Random,

Completely understand where your coming from with noise problems. I get it myself and theres been a few threads regarding this. I suffer with how noise effects me in that I can't concentrate on anything if the ambient noise is wrong for me. Too many people talking and restaurants are a no go for me.

Its interesting to know that there is a heading for the problem too, ill look into this. Have a fantastic Sunday. Nick X
