Cranioplasty : Have you experienced this? Was it... - Headway
Cranioplasty
Hi, I had my cranioplasty just over a year ago and it was a complete success. I was in hospital for 3 days after and the staples out 14 days later. I was told the main risk was infection, so I was super careful not to touch the incisions or staples, didn't pick at the scabs. It healed up really well and I can't even tell its there now. I still don't have full feeling in my scalp over the plate, but its slowly coming back. Hope that helps
I had a cranioplasty, followed by decompressive craniectomy. My missing skull has been replaced since.
Thankfully I've not had issues with any if it.
Infection is the biggest problem so I didn't touch the area at all. No hair washing, nothing. After clips were out, I washed my hair 48hrs later - gently.
My skull has various sensation and feeling but it's all righting itself in its own time.
The fab surgeons know what they're doing and our bodies are amazing and knows how to heal itself, in its own way and in its own time.
I hope you feel some reassurance if that's what you needed/wanted x
My husband had this operation last July, we were told it was a relatively simple operation and he was at less than 1% chance of stroke. The day after the operation. My husband suffered a brain stem stroke, he was in a coma for 6 months and passed away in January. We are waiting for coroners reports to establish how and why this happened as the neurologists cannot tell us. they do now however admit that as he had already had a brain injury, he was at risk a lot more than we were told. This was carried out at the Royal London hospital. Please think carefully before having this done.
