This is a little snippet of an email newsletter I got from Katie, the Wellness mama.
"It makes me so angry to read the latest statistics about the hundreds of chemicals found in the blood of newborn babies and the thousands found in adults.
It is scary and infuriating that we are exposed to these harsh chemicals each day, yet we have control over the largest source of daily exposure to harmful chemicals: personal care products.
Our deodorants, lotions, hair products and even toothpastes are a source of thousands of chemicals each day... and many of these chemicals are not tested for safety in humans.
Years ago, I started making my own personal care products. I experimented with everything from shampoo to toothpaste to deodorant, and found that homemade options were not only very simple, but cheaper in the long run, because the same basic ingredients can be used to make dozens of natural care products."
Wellness mama is the website where I first found out about the many uses for coconut oil, 101 of them to be exact.
Great post Matt. I would add that we are just chemicals too, like plants. Chemicals in blood per se is not bad providing happy kidneys and liver detoxify the ones it doesn't want into urine, stool, supported by a good diet and exercise (lots of oxygen fresh air).
Brain injury does appear to interfere with this process so I'm sure others will enjoy reading your post and link. Modern pharmaceuticals isolate and concentrate certain chemicals and remove balance of synergistic chemicals found in natural plant harvests so body has a harder time processing it.
Also worth adding that 'anger' contributes to bad digestion. Stress plays a major role in your immune system, and can impact your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, brain chemistry, blood sugar levels, and hormonal balance. It can even "break" your heart, and is increasingly being viewed as a cardiovascular risk marker. Stress, anxiety and Irritable Bowel Syndrome are shown in studies to coexist.
Despite mama's positive and insightful homemade products, using mindfulness meditation to manage her anger rather than spreading it on emails alongside natural products, would help her emotional equilibrium and reinforce her message of the positive approach to health and wellbeing.
