shingles
Hi Commanchero, shingles can cause Encephalitis and would have been diagnosed if that was what caused your brain injury.
I had viral Encephalitis but the virus was not found, I was in a coma for 3 weeks and in hospital for a total of 3 months, needing to be taught to walk and I have residual sight and balance problems from the pressure of the brain swelling.
What caused your brain injury, was it an external trauma or bleed on the brain, stroke or such like?

Hi Comanchero. Has your GP not offered the antiviral drug which was introduced last year. I contracted shingles a year ago and was given Famciclovir which was effective very quickly in reducing the pain and itching.
Hi, I had shingles about 3 years ago ..... I was about 3 years recovery from TBI at the time. I have been using alternative methods for recovery. So I researched what might help shingles to go. I used extra high doses of Vit C going from a 1000 mg once a day to 3 times a day. I also took high doses of Vit E too and upped the B vits. I had only a tiny tiny rash and just felt a bit fluey for 4 days. I rested more. Every year at the same time I feel little shingley prickles ..... My acupuncturist treats me for 'damp heat' when I get like that. I make sure I'm having no foods that exacerbate this too. [eg red meat, dairy, wheat and sugar.... check it out online] I think I was ok because my diet is so good too.....
Good luck - I know shingles is unpleasant!!!!!
