Seriously I've been Hayling island once for a wedding years ago its lovely isn't it?I like Motown too- wouldn't go so far as dancing on the talcum powder like some of them do though-waste of talcum powder and would set me asthma off lol!
I think I went on Hayling Island once or twice when I was little but I wouldn't remember, my mum told me that. So for me, the first time I had been to Hayling Island and remembered it was early last year :).
It is a very nice place indeed and I never even knew Warner Leisure Hotels/Sinah Warren existed until last year.
I did dance the night away but not on talcum powder haha. I didn't even know they did that.
I thought I was going to be the only one who dressed up to but there were others in my group who also dressed up and other people who weren't in our group too :).
So I didn't stick out like a sore thumb after all haha.
I'm embarrassed to admit being old enough to remember but it was french chalk not talcum, cheaper and not so smelly but still as effective at setting of an asthma attack unfortunately..... or was that just an effective excuse to escape a boring evening
No actually when i was a University shop manager i had to work 'all nighters' sometimes because Motown nights were held in the Student Union Hall upstairs.Nice well behaved bunch of people but we were told to remove all talcum powder out off the shop shelves so they didn't buy it to chuck on the floor upstairs
Well I must have played cheap skate working mens clubs not posh Union Halls lol. Mind you judging from some of the Uni student my daughter mingled with during her spell at Uni pleasnt smelling talcum was probably desirable lol
One of scarriest gigs I played was at a posh hotel where dico fever was the 'in' thing. Underfloor lit glass stage and would be John Travolas jumping on and off the stage. I was terrified of hearing a loud cracking sound before disapearing into a tangle of broken bulbs and live electrics.
Yeah why not like martini any time any place in whatever in your jim jams.Thats why were so adaptable like chameleons Matt us people with brill brains were just the best remember that!!
I've got to say you look cool because back in the 70's I used to wear a very similar outfit in one of the bands I played in..... Luckily for me, being a drummer I was right at the back and sat down behind a clutch of strategically placed cymbals so not too many people could see me lol.
Some where I do believe there are some photo's of me but the blackmailer won't let me have them back..... until I've finished making tea and done the ironing...... for LIFE!!
Just a bit of a follow up the lead singer in a Blues band I played in during late 90's through to around 2008/2009 regularly wore trouser very like yours or purple and black stripped baggy clown trousers. Might explain why we got to play Glastonbury in 2000.... we were the comic relief lol (only the band stand down in the market square... but we were there).
Thanks :). Some of the others in the group I was with dressed up too. 2 members dressed as a pimp, one looked much better than the other. One of them hired their outfit out, they looked the part. Red Velvet clothes, all the bling, shades and even the pimp cane haha.
One of the guys was dressed in a very colourful suit, tight curl afro and shades.
Brilliant clothing but it was a ashame not all members kept them on for long :(. I had mine on all noght :).
You learn something every day.! Talc and chalk. Only time I used talc was to pat some on my son as a baby bum after his bath , bless him, he is 22 now, and won't thank me for saying this!
Thats chalk like they use for black boards very soft, dry, powdery and absorbant. French chalk is hard and very slippery when powdered. We used to use thinis flat strips od french chalk for marking up steel for fabrication.
Not sure if they are even the same mineral but certainly have differen properties... mmh! Might be interesting to put some powdered french chalk in the gymnasts bag to see what happens... might be funny as long as nobody gets hurt
LOL ! Medallion man, throwing some serious shapes there ,my friend ! Looks like you had a great time : )) Ed and I love live music -been to a few artist tributes and a lot of Ska events. I was the mad woman attempting the can can at Bad Manners Xmas do,supported by two tables !Couldn't walk right for five days but you gotta have a go haven't you ! As Ian Dury observed ,' snice to be a lunatic ! ' : )
I agree, nice to be a lunatic... But it is better off in the right places though :).
A medallion is something I was thinking of wearing but didn't bother in the end :). People might not have seen it due to my loud, flamboyant, silk shirt haha.
Speaking of tributes, last year Warner had the rolling stones tribute band :), they were brilliant.
This year, the band was Platform Souls, they were good but not as good as the stones.
People complained because Platform Souls did not play the Motown favourites. I've got to admit, I was expecting more Motown.
They sometimes do a Madness/Shawoddywoddy weekend. I would enjoy that :).
Madness would be very energetic and grerat fun but Shawaddywaddy could be less so, getting away with the ols Shadows crossover ford back and side step lol
We had an excellent time thank you :). It is a shame to leave really, it can be kind of depressing. Just like going away on holiday. Still hopefully, I will be going again next year :), if I get invited.
