Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

I have now started Hypobaric Oxygen Therapy (3rd day) - I have an hour per day over 5 days for 4 weeks it's a bit of a trek travel wise, however I am really hoping that it makes a difference as I do get very down and isolated.

I hear this mentioned occasionally and I remember someone started it about a year ago (but can't remember who). It might have been someone who's now left the forum because I've no sense of how it turned out.

For those of us who aren't familiar with it, can you tell us more about it Lorraine. For example, is it administered in a special clinic or is it within a hospital ? And how is it administered exactly ?

Hope it works for you ............please update us. :-/

Hi Cat thanks for your reply. It's administered by a private hospital local to me (at a reasonable cost) but you can get access through the MS society (I believe for a donation). they use it to try and help alleviate the symptoms of MS. You sit in a specialised tank (which isn't as scary as people think) and basically breathing in pure oxygen. It apparently helps to stimulate and heal blood vessels and produce regrowth of sleeping cells.

I have done most of my research through google as I really didn't know a lot about it either. I have been encouraged by some of the outcomes. The hospital I have access to use it for drug and alcohol rehabilitation as it helps to detox and heal some of the brain injury. There are also people who are there on chemotherapy for cancer. It's all new to me too Cat but will keep you posted. Thank you xxx Lorraine

I know being isolated and lonely is difficult but this forum and individuals ( private message if necessary to chat ) are here to will help, advice and chat. Good luck with the therapy and like Cat says, keep us informed. It's always good to hear how different kinds of therapy work. Take care Jo

I can only echo the above. I've not heard anything about it, had to turn to google. It says it is meant to help with strokes and other injuries. You've got a doctor who is open to unorthodox therapies. He's (?) probably as keen as us, to find out how you get on.

GOOD LUCK

Thanks for your reply and yes I turned to google initially too. I am encouraged by some of the outcomes of the therapy. I self referred as my GP goes down the line of antidepressants and anti-anxiety drugs which I feel are of little benefit to me. I just don't have a lot of belief in them because of the side effects. In fact it was a side effect of an antidepressant (causing low sodium) that put me in the coma in 2013 so I am very nervous about medication on a personal level. Thank you for your wishes and will keep you posed. Thanks xxxx

Thank you scruffycat for your encouragement

I'D BE REALLY INTERESTED TO SEE HOW IT WORKS OUT. I'VE MENTIONED IT TO MY NEURO & HE SAID THERE HAVE BEEN GOOD RESULTS WITH OXYGEN THERAPY WHETHER IT'S IN A CHAMBER OR THROUGH A MASK & O2 BOTTLE AT HOME.

I AM GETTING TOWARDS MY WITS END & HEARING FROM SOMEONE WHO'S ACTUALLY DOING IT IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO ME. PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW YOU FEEL.

GOOD LUCK.HOPE IT WORKS FOR YOU.

Hi Zeblet - it's early days for me with the oxygen therapy but what I have read about it on the internet is very positive and it is a natural way of healing. It sounds encouraging if your neuro has said there have been good results with it too. Hope you can find some good information about it and explore the possibility further as it would definitely be worth a try.

It must be difficult to feel at your wits end with things so I will definitely keep you updated.
