After having CIN3 diagnosed I had a total hysterectomy on 21sept I am home now but on discharge I read on the papers that I will be having a vaginal vault smearfor the next 9 years (I am 56). My surgeon told me I had a bulky cervix and uterus which has scared me. Looking on the net suggests this could be far more serious than I thought can anyone explain why I need these smears (which I am glad I am having) and should the bulky uterus and cervix be something I should worry about?
Thank you
Pauline

It's normal and good practice to have follow up appointments after a hysterectomy. We suggest you ask your team for the reason behind a 9 year follow up plan? It might be better to go over this with our Nurse, Tracie on the phone? If you would like her to call you, please email your phone number to nurse@eveappeal.org.uk
I went to hospital on Friday for the results and I am relieved to say it was all clear.

Any woman who has any gynaecology issues whether they seem small or large please please see your doctor and if necessary insist on having investigations. The sooner anything is treated the better.
