Question re dosage

Hi,

Following last posts - my levels have changed:

27 Oct-

T3 16.5 pmol/L

T4 36.8 pmol/L

TSH <0.01 mlU/L

16 Dec-

T3 27.0 pmol/L

T4 58.3 pmol/L

TSH <0.01 mlU/L

Dec 23rd started on 20 mg Carbimazole one a day

8 January -

T3 7 pmol/l

T4 18.8 pmol/L

TSH <0.01 mlU/L

Endo app on 8th Jan - following bloods they suggest reduction in dose to 10 mg.

I am concerned that I may go into hypo - is this possible? I have technically been over medicating for a week (since Endo first app) - and I am feeling tired.

And is it usual to have my levels respond so quickly in response to Carbimazole?

I have not had the results of the antibody test done on 8th January yet.

Any advice/experience really appreciated.

do you have lab ranges?

Frees look high by most ranges.

Reducing carbimazole will stop levels dropping at same rate. The aim being to find right dose to keep frees in range.

TSH can take longer to respond.

Levels coming down quick could be a sign levels are naturally dropping. How long was it? less than a few weeks?

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

When you say lab ranges - do you mean what the test says is the normal range? Yes - the T3 and T4 were high compared to the normal ranges. Between 16 Dec and Jan 8 the levels reduced by 20 from 27 to 7. Normal range is 6.8. I was surprised at the drop - seems very quick. Worried I will go Hypo. Feeling very tired now.

Hey there again :

Finding a level of AT drug that allows you to function while we wait for your immune system response to calm down can take some skill and time on the part of the endocrinologist.

Levels can adjust quickly but if your immune system is still very active and the Graves antibodies - both stimulating and blocking - still playing football with your thyroid - on too low dose of the AT drug - your thyroid liable to ' take of ' again - so it can be a challenge.

Your look to be almost back in the ranges so hopefully your symptoms are relieved -

When do you next see the endo - or is your doctor to manage you going forward ?

as if all goes well - I would think that this reduced dose of Carbimazole will need titrating down again -

Do you have the list of symptoms of both hyper and hypo from the Thyroid UK website - this will help you understand where you are in all this - though some symptoms do sit in both camps. thyroiduk.org

Please ensure that your antibody blood test is a positive for Graves Disease :

Also ask for your core strength vitamins and minerals to be run as when the thyroid goes ' haywire ' metabolism can go through the floor or through the roof - and low levels of ferritin, folate, B12 an vitamin D will compromise your health further than necessary.

Thank you - I am still waiting for the GP to get the letter from the Endo. Because I called this week, then emailed it to me. The plan is I have a call from Endo in 3 months with a blood test the week before. From the first test in Oct all the other levels - vits etc. - were good. However on letter in email from Endo they were still waiting on anti body results. You have prompted me to chase again next week.

OK then - but comments such as ' good and normal ' are opinions and some ranges on which these comments are based are too wide to even be sensible - so always ask for printed copies of everything including the ranges and we can explain what it all actually means -

Also register for on-line access to your medical records held at the surgery so you can read at leisure your progress rather than feel a nuisance ringing up and asking the over worked receptionist to look for you.

Thanks,

I do have the ranges - I have the NHS App with the test results - just didn't have access to my phone.

I will post when I do.
