ISFRYR3 Surely a low point snack could just be nuts, dried apricots, a banana, celery or carrot sticks. Why look for processed food alternatives when you are trying to diet?
Hi Isfryr3... I'm on Weight Watchers. They have been incredibly supportive of me. I also have IBS and multiple food allergies. To say the least, this journey has been a challenge! I have to eat foods that will absorb stomach acid every couple of hours.... raw fruit and vegetables rip my intestines to shreds. They have 2 crisps that are gluten free according to the label: sour cream and chives and cheddar cheese. The rest do have gluten. I can tolerate both those. A package is 2 points. I put them in a bowl and when I need something on my stomach I have a few. I only eat one package a day. I also eat organic applesauce, poached fruit (I poach the fruit in a little water) and low fat, low lactose cream cheese on dry GF toast fingers. I cut the fingers and just eat one at a time. I also eat Glutino's GF pretzels... the sticks are 8 for 1 point. I actually carry those in my purse for emergencies. I eat 5 small meals a day. I make vegetable soup and broths for when I need an energy boost and tummy filler. I drink about 2 litres of water a day and supplement with skim milk and organic decaffeinated tea. I find that smaller servings of protein help stretch the points. Plain low fat, low lactose yoghurt has also been very helpful - 1/2 cup is very soothing and takes away the hunger. I can't eat nuts or dried fruit so, I stick to things in small quantities. I don't skip meals, I take my vitamins and I eat all my points every day. So far I've lost 23 pounds in 5 months. I keep a food diary, which I go over with my medical doctor once a month. I also do my physio and exercises every day. Keeping physically active is important. I hope that might be of some help to you or at least give you some ideas. Best wishes for success in your weight loss!
thank you, given me a few ideas
When I was on WW (maybe 15 years ago) I ate so many carrots I don't know how I didn't turn into one. I loved a bowl of veg, maybe steamed broccoli, with a little fat-free vinaigrette, zero-point soup (do they still do that?) or a punnet of cherry tomatoes, and when I craved ice cream I'd have an ice lolly. A hard-boiled egg is a good snack if you're flagging in the afternoon.
I lost 3.5 stones with WW and it was much easier than I ever thought it would be. Good luck!
weight watcher lifetime member, vegetarian, coeliac. snacks don't need to be carbs. i know we look for gluten alternatives everywhere we go but just remember how many carb serves you're having. I never have a carb snack. Fruit is a great sweet filler, veggies can be prepared to feel different to your meals, dairy or subs are important to stave off oesteoporosis which is associated to CD. Drink plenty. Mix it up with diet cordial or herbal tea, warm water is sweeter than cold water. when you think you're hungry have a drink and wait 10mns and reassess. if you're flagging in the mid afternoon consider changing your lunch to be fat free and very low in sugar to avoid the GI crash.Green apples are my favourite in the afternoon because they fill for so long. hope this helps.
I would agree with avoiding sugar as much as possible, but I worry that going fat free will mean that your body will not be absorbing fat soluble vitamins, like vit D.
The idea that eating fat will make you put on weight is out of date, unless you combine it with carbs. A low carb diet can help you loose weight and stay healthy.
