Corn fed chicken?: I thought this would... - Gluten Free Guerr...
Corn fed chicken?
I don't really know about the gluten issue with corn fed chicken: I just know that I don't like the way it tastes or how it looks when it's cooking - all that weird yellow grease oozing out, it just can't be right!!!
Some people cannot tolerate corn products and will avoid corn fed chicken.
. I avoid corn fed chicken because too much corn is not good for chickens. They are omnivores and need a variety of food for their health. Corn alters the composition of their eggs and meat, making it less healthy for us to eat.
Great...I thought I was doing the right thing getting something that seemed a bit more natural than the pile 'em high and sell 'em cheap ones
nothing 'natural' about feeding corn to chickens.
If you only have access to supermarket meat it can make finding good meat a bit of a challenge. Can you find any chickens with the RSPCA Freedom Food logo on? It shouldn't be as expensive as free range and there should be a choice between corn fed and not corn feed.
We've all got used to the idea of cheap meat and it's tempting to go with it.
We try to buy good quality cheap cuts of meat and use a slow cooker. Chicken has gone back to be more of a treat for us than an everyday food.
Corn fed chicken is still gluten free. Corn fed chicken is certainly not a cheaper option. It also does nothing to alter the nutritional quality of either the eggs or the meat. It is purely a personal preference if people enjoy the difference. Personally I don't like the colour.
No...it didn't sit right with me funnily enough. It wasn't worth the extra money so I won't be buying any more.
