malt whiskey: hi can any tell me if... - Gluten Free Guerr...
malt whiskey
Whisky is general considered to ok by most coeliac societies around the world as the distillation process removes the gluten. However some coeliacs find they don't tolerate it very well (Of course that might also depend on how much they drink :-). It's likely to be the oil (if chips were fried), unless you know the fryer was just cleaned with fresh oil put in. Some ready chips have a coating so this could have been an issue. PS Were you drinking any mixer with the whisky? If so did you check if these were gluten free?
Malt whiskies are often matured in used sherry or port caskets and this can be an issue for some coeliac.
hi jerry thanks shall stick to wine i think x
It would be interesting to have a survey on how many coeliacs can tolerate whiskey.....My DH flares up immediately (in fact it was finally diagnosed after a couple of weeks of drinking Baileys). My consultant was chuffed...'a positive id at last.....what have you been eating?' He then categorically said that no whiskey can be seen as safe because of the production process. Is this another barley malt thing? What do they say in Australia? ( I know they have a zero tolerance to gluten) Do they recommend whiskey? 20 odd years ago when I was diagnosed and there was no internet and very little info, the couple of books I bought about CD both said that as far as alcohol was concerned I should drink only fruit based ones. It was quite a few years later that suddenly we were being led to believe that whiskey was ok.
and i carnt have fresh orange juice eather that makes me ill dont know why x
Yes Australia say whiskey is ok due to the distilling process.
yes thats true i had read in coilic uk booklet that it was safe this has happened a couple times so it does mak u think i only stick to gin or brandy as a rule aw well sharnt be doin that again lol thanks a lot xx
You can have rum as well...highly recommended added to hot chocolate (twinings is good for us)
Yes, I can and do have the odd Glen Morangie or Jamesons..without any problems,
I find it the mixers that could cause grief...so I stick to what I have always thought..the only thing you add to a whisk(e)y ..is another one....
Here's raising a glass or tea cup...to your continued good health...Eddy Shededra (phonetic spelling of cheers in Hungarian..)..
