Glutened right?

Slushy47

Ate some mcdonalds french fries yesterday thinking they were safe from gluten. Woke up in the middle of the night last night after horrifying night terrors. My heart was beating fast , I felt very nauseous and had racing thoughts . It's about 10 hours later and I'm still nauseous and restless. I've been starting to notice this pattern of nightmares after eating gluten. Anyways jw if anyone experiences any symptoms like this on this forum or tell me any other strange symptoms you have that possibly could be connected with gluten. Thanks

I forgot to say that I just learned today that McDonalds fries in the US are coated in gluten and dairy.

I don't think it's that the fries themselves are coated in gluten, but that they're cooked in the same frier as gluten containing foods (e.g. chicken nuggets). It's one of those questions you'll get used to asking: "do you have a gluten free frier?"

Everyone gets different symptoms, so you'll come to learn what yours are. I'm not diagnosed coeliac, but I get dermatitis when I eat gluten. My partner is diagnosed coeliac, he gets hot flushes, insomnia, stomach cramps and he can't travel far from a loo.

Yes ive been reading that they are actually flavored with wheat and milk derivatives, but only in the United States. I havent been diagnosed celiac either. 95% of people with celiac are undiagnosed its reported.

That's unfortunate. In a lot of European countries, you can get GF McDonalds, but the UK isn't one of them. Their fries are meant to be safe here (they're not). I've never understood the country variations.

Are you gluten free just now, or do you still eat some gluten in your diet?

No I've been gf for about 9 months. I found out I was hypothyroid about 6 months ago in the ER. I've had a lot of symptoms going back to early childhood so I think it may take me a while to heal my body from the constant damage. I basically lived on pasta, bread, pizza, cookies etc., for most of my life. I've heard that it can take years to heal and some never fully recover.

How weird I had Mac Donald’s fries yesterday and was in agony all evening. Never again

Yea me too, I'm finished with that wretched Ronald McDonald.

It's best to stay away from any fast food restaurant as they do not follow strict protocol for those of us who are Celiac. Even places like Jersey/Mikes can be compromised, as I well know. I am one who avoids fast food restaurants and always have, but there are time even when only eating foods I have prepared myself, I will inadvertently be glutened.

Yea my fast food intake has gone way way down since I went GF. Fast foods are poisonous anyways so we are much better off. Are you diagnosed celiac?

I am, along with the accompanying Celiac skin disorder Dermatitis Herpetiformis. I also suffer from Hashimotos, as well. I was diagnosed with Hashis and Celiac 10 years ago and the DH 3 years ago. But, I can now look back and realize that I have had the DH for almost 50 years, so the Celiac obviously longer than that and the Hashis for over 55 years. Years ago, I stopped taking my health problems to any allopathic doctor, as they have failed me miserably.

That's very sad. It seems like celiac is being undiagnosed in so many cases. It's such a dangerous disease to have undiagnosed. At least the awareness about gluten has gone up in the last decade or so.

Are MCD s fries made from potatoes? Like many others I avoid fast food takeaways. It's the cooking oil which can be a blend.

Yes they're made from potatoes but they coat them in a flavoring that has wheat derivatives.

Serves your right - the Golden Rule for any Coeliac is 'If you don't know for certain what's in it - don't eat it'! You have to become a compulsive label reader. Some frozen chips in the UK are gluten free and some aren't. Suprisingly it's usually the more expensive brands that have wheat in them, supermarket own brands are generally OK but always check. I have noticed that some brands are moving away from using wheat to maize/cornflour.

I have even found regular chippies using coated chips. If you want chips, go to a regular chippy and ask. If they fry their chips in the same oil/fat as the fish they'll be crap anyway as they are supposed to be cooked at different temperatures.

Don't even trust labels. Always check with the manufacturer. No flour/coating on chips does not mean that there isn't on the production line. Some brands do with and without coating, but they're all still in the same factory and unless labelled GF there is no guarantee of safety.

I also ate a plain double cheeseburger without the bun, fries and cheated and pealed a chicken nugget and ate that, 7 hours later i had the hot flush sweats cramp, went to the toilet, got back into bed slept 2 hrs and then went into a weard comatized state were my heart was unstable and i thort i was going to die, i have had 4 really bad episodes now, 2 of them lasted 4 days in bed and had numerous test done But still not aware of whats cumming, im still trying to get me head round this illness and it is traumatised me and my family x

Yes i was born with it but by the time i was recently told by the time i was 11 it sort of went, i new nothing about it as i am 52 now just noticed a lot bloating and heartburn and thort i had IBS Ive sort of stuck to a cd diet but failed with bread and cereal but October last year i thought i had food poisoning and weeks later i had the same problem but was worser traumatic then my voice went and was rushed on for tests, all the years of abuse had took its toll, my right Lung was scared and full of air , they thort i had cancer then in January thort i had COVID-19 similarities in symptoms, ive had biopsy's all-sorts and now they saying its coelic after i was negative months earlier, i have a good diet and feel great until i eat gluten

This was a ridiculous thing to do. Did you actually expect a good outcome from this?
