Prompt diagnosis of coeliac disease is a priority and needs to be flagged-up as late diagnosis may lead to a lifetime of painful conclusions

I came across this particular post that was written with a warning to all coeliacs by Jennifer Esposito. I must confess that it tore at my heart strings as I read about the number of problems that arrived at her doorstep two-and-a-half years after going gluten free and finding out that she had coeliac disease. I have put the link here to highlight that coeliac disease isn't just a momentary condition that all goes away when the diet is adhered to. It, may all go away if we are lucky but we may have to face other battles and that is why it is important to find out as much as we can and to fight for all coeliacs to be heard. To bring to the attention of doctors that this is a disease that we all need to take seriously and it is important to offer all patients who may appear to have problems with gluten every test possible to find out as early as they can whether they will have to eat differently for the rest of their lives. As well as this we need more support and education all round as to how additional illness that is linked to coeliac disease may (if possible) be prevented.

I hope that you will be able to read this link for it is enlightening.

Hi Irene, I hope that you will think about adding all of the extra information that is being added to Facebook and Twitter here too. Not all members have access or may wish to have accounts on Facebook and Twitter and it is a shame if they are missing out on useful information and links. x

Lynxcat, it's like programmes on radio v tv. We carefully use each channel for the target audience and tailor content that is appropriate. We have a bigger number of fans on our Facebook page which has lighter content e.g. recipes, places to visit, restaurant reviews. It enables people to dip in quickly when they have a moment and when they are out and about on the move using their Smartphones.

Twitter is for real time updates and conversations and this HU Forum is for health debates and discussions.

Lot of the Facebook Coeliac pages seem to focus on cake and we wanted a platform for people who were keen to discuss aspects of CD, life after going gluten free, complications, latest research and provide general support.

We recognise that many people choose not to have a Facebook or Twitter acccount and we respect that personal choice but as more and more content is going viral we feel these are important channels that many Coeliacs find useful, especially to link up with other Coeliacs around the world to share info.

You can of course create a Facebook or Twitter account and keep it simple and just use it to follow pages, accounts, that interest you.

If anybody is a bit of a technophobe and doesn't really get social media we are more than happy to provide links and handy reference sites that keep things nice and simple to set up.

Here is the Twitter Feed for non-members:
