Apparently there is.....I have both.....been hypo since 2003...coeliac since 2009. I was told that if you have one you are more likely to get the other,
yes you are right charliek1960... i also have both... once you get one auto immune disease you are more likely to get others... i was hyper first in 1992, had a thyroidectomy and then in 2002 went hypo, 2007 was told i had coeliac disease along with anaemia!!
Here's a very comprehensive blog posted on here by Fiona last November:
Sure theres a link i've underactive thyroid since 2006 then coeliac in 2011 with anaemia
I have both too - Hypothyroid since 2008 and a recent discovery of CD earlier this year. I learned of the link from coeliac uk's website when I was finding out more about things soon after diagnosis, it also says that you are more at risk of type 2 diabetes too....just one more to go for the set
I have had Graves disease diagnosed since 2005 followed by a thyroidectomy in 2009, fibromyalgia in Jan 2010 and am now sure I have hashimoto thyroiditus but just waiting for testing. I have heard of the connection many times and am 6 weeks into the trial and error of GF. All auto immune diseases or connections of I think xxx
yes their is a link to celiac and hashimoto`s. i have had hashi`s for over 40 years but was only diagnosed in 1990. i now am celiac this year and have rhuematoid arthritis and dermatitis. also think i have mild dislexia, their is a gene that links all this.! both my sons are on the autistic spectrum.
I have 4 different autoimmune diseases sarcoidosis, hashimotos, coeliac and now polyendocrine syndrome. My endrocrinologist says that he see many people with more than 1 autoimmune problem and lots of people with the thyroid/coeliac combination. However, sometimes I think we do ourselves a disservice when we talk of CD as an intolerance problem rather than explaining that we have a life long autoimmune disease and that gluten is dangerous not just to our intestines but our overall health and life expectancy
