Hi Binky - do you mean a list of foods containing gluten? If you have been diagnosed with Coeliac Disease has your Dr / dietitian not explained this to you already? If not I'd re-visit them and ask for guidance.
It is also worth contacting your coeliac society charity for where you live as these can vary from non- EU countries to EU.
The general basic foods & drinks that DO contain gluten and you need to AVOID are:
- pasta
- pizza
- bread
- flour
- soy sauce
- gravies/ sauces
- Worcestershire sauce
- cloudy lemonade (barley)
- supermarket colas (barley)
- many ready-meals/ processed sauces
- some crisps
- anything that contains: wheat, rye, barley, oats, spelt or derivatives or these e.g. soy sauce
- always read the ingredients of anything you would put in your mouth e.g. drinks/ food
- look out for whether they were produced on a line using wheat products - if so they are best avoided as there maybe cross contamination
If in doubt - leave it out.
In the UK all toothpaste & prescribed medicines are GF. Yet over the counter medicines / vitamins etc you will need to check are GF with the pharmacist.
- rice, corn, quinoa are all naturally gluten free
What are you confused about in relation to gluten free food?
hiya go to celiec uk site join and they will send you a booklett with all in plus all the supermarkeks wot do gf good luck x
It's almost like asking "how long is a piece of string" - there are the obvious foods as listed above - then there's the less obvious foods where it can crop up such as sliced meats, soups, ready meals etc
It really is very much a learning process - I have a book from the coeliac society - but generally tend to do my own thing and read labels.
I've now been shopping in M&S Food halls for the large majority of our food shopping for well over a year and can honestly say, it's made a massive difference - they make a LOT of their foods gluten free and where they can't (such as products in breadcrumbs) they've made a gluten free version - such as chicken in breadcrumbs, and cod in breadcrumbs - they even have some rissole type productts with GF versions.
if you like curry be prepared to be pleasantly surprised - obviously you need to ask - but lots of ready meal curries and curries from indian takeaways are gluten free - my weekly treat is a Chicken Tikka with salad
