Are the home tests for coeilac disease accurate?
Sorry I don't know for sure either. You could look at the Coeliac UK website, or you can maybe ask them.
Bear in mind that even if a blood test is negative, the definitive answer is an endoscopy.
Don't know. I have never heard of an in home test for Celiac. It would more than likely only show positive if you have been eating gluten, anyway.
Personally while doing a gluten challenge before hospital testing I did a home finger prick igAttg test and it came up positive straight away. Coeliac disease was highly suspected as I was very sick from the gluten challenge, so much that couldn’t complete it for confirmation of diagnosis. I was offered a genetic test to rule in or out, and found out have low risk gene but was advised by gastroenterologist to be strict gluten free. So the same outcome regards a gluten free diet. But I still don’t know if it’s coeliac disease or allergy.
I would suggest, my personal opinion not scientific, that the home test might be more sensitive than a drs. A positive is detecting the antibodies but my drs “normal” test was 3 (range 0-7) so not 0.
I’ve read extensively on coeliac disease and a positive igAttg correlates to extent of gut damage.
If you have any symptoms whatsoever that are associated with coeliac disease, go to your doctor and get tested to be certain. You need to have gluten in your diet for tests.
Hope that’s helpful.
