Hi All

Can anyone recommend an effective indigestion tablet/liquid that is gluten free. I tried gaviscon advance recently which worked so well but then I reacted as if I’d eaten gluten, it is listed as gluten free so must have been another ingredient that I’m sensitive to, but don’t want to try it again.

I’m on omeprazole already but want something I can take after meals.

As soon as I’ve eaten sometimes, even something small , my stomach gurgles and burns and can be so painful, may be completely unrelated to celiac but never really had an explanation for it.

Thanks in advance

Hi Galaxy2, have you had this investigated by your GP? Other drugs are available that might suit you better. For your own peace of mind, please get his checked out.

Thank you, and sorry for the delay in replying, I have had investigations but no explanation really other than acid reflux.

Hi.

Agree with Babsy. You need to return to gp to get this looked into. Especially if omeprazole isn’t working it can do more harm than good to take. It’s usually a course of treatment as long term use can have health consequences as it affects digestion and stops absorption of b12 and minerals. Stomach acid is essential. But if you’re taking ibuprofen or antiinflammatory medication the stomach protector is essential too. There will be other treatment available.

You dont say why or how long you’ve been on omeprazole ?it doesn’t work instantly but works over time to reduce stomach acid. Do you have diagnosed gastritis? If you’ve been taking omeprazole for awhile and it’s not helping then you really need to push for a gastro referral. There’s other rare disease like eosinophilic gastritis that a likely cause if proton pump inhibitors fail to treat. Again there’s specific treatment for this. Sometimes steroid course and then figuring out allergenic foods if this is the case (I mention this possibility from personal experience with eosinophilic disorders. They’re rare and get diagnosed once other avenues have been ruled out and also not all gastroenterologists are aware of EGIDs.)

Hope my reply is helpful and well wishes.

Thank you, I’ve been on omeprazole for many years because of long term steroids. I’ve had many investigations and 2 endoscopies but other than celiac and Ibs I have no other diagnoses. These stomach symptoms of burning/gurglung comes and goes but just would be nice to find something that helps.

That’s a tough one. Hope the bicarbonate of soda in water helps as suggested by Catryna49.

I’ve used that remedy for indigestion before, similar to gripe water for babies.

I suffer from GERD. I use a bit of baking soda in water and that gets rid of the symptoms almost immediately. I now take a bit of baking soda morning and evening and that seems to have relieved any more occurrences.
