Is this CD?

Hi

None of the typical CD symptoms (although I do have osteoporosis), have had bloods done to check eligibility for new osteo medication and they’ve clearly tested for everything as I’ve (very unexpectedly!) had positive results for both anti-Endomysial and anti-ttg. (Pic of letter attached)

I presume this means CD is almost certain? Have an appointment with a gastroenterologist in two weeks. Gutted is an understatement!!

Thank you!

Yes - the ttg result probably means CD. This is bad news, I know - but when my CD was diagnosed and I went gluten free, my early stage osteoarthritis disappeared (in terms of symptoms/pain) for almost 5 years, so I am assuming that it would be much worse than it is now if I was still eating gluten. Hopefully if it is CD, you might find a little relief from the osteo 🤞

Although a link between gluten and joint pain does not seem to be recognised by NIHCE or by Coeliac UK, joint pain is listed as a symptom of CD by the Canadian and US coeliac people.

Hi Jackygee.

Yes it would seem almost certain. The antiendomysial test is more specific to coeliac disease and that being positive can dx coeliac if the ttg is 10x the upper limit. If you’re over 55 likely need the endoscopy to confirm diagnosis.

Coeliac disease can be asymptomatic in some. But the osteoporosis is likely from the malabsorption of nutrients from damaged gut. As above poster said, this may improve some once the gut heals.
