Care with condiments.

I recently had a gluten free cream tea. On eating a ham sandwich I realised it had a smear of English mustard on it, which is not gf! The rest was delicious.

I had a discreet word with the chef on leaving, and mentioned this to him. He was completely unaware of this issue and was going to do more research. Fortunately I was not badly affected as I did not have much, but I am so careful and seldom eat out.

It was nice to be able to enjoy a treat and also assist a well meaning chef increase his knowledge.

I am super cautious. Find the carveries best where I can select what is suitable. The Toby are good enough to give me plain cauliflower instead of the cauliflower cheese…

I think you are being too kind, as this is actually a breach of law. Gluten free can not be messed with, and the food regulations are clear. It is not our job to educate chefs when the law is clear. You state the Chef "was going to do more research" - how, and on what? He only needs to look at the ingredients on the mustard pack where it will declare 'wheat' in bold type, as is required under law. They soft-soaped you on that one. I would check if that food outlet has had Coeliac UK training and/or report on to them, as this is a fundamental error of the worst type.
