Diet Coke a Problem?

Hi everyone

I’ve had terrible pain the last few days, the sort I get when I’ve accidentally eaten gluten but I can’t think of anything that it could be. But I wondering if Diet Coke is the culprit, I know it’s gluten free but just wondering if anyone has found the same issue. I’m ok with other fizzy drinks.

Always trying to eliminate my triggers so would be interested to hear from anyone.

Thanks all

Fizzy drinks, caffeine and artificial sweetners can all cause problems with digestive issues. IBS , bloating and diarrheao etc. Would avoid it completely.

Hi I drink the branded diet coke sometimes and am sensitive and don't have any issues. Pepsi max is also ok. Just wondering if it was branded diet coke was draught at a pub and cross contamination could be the problem.

Thanks for that, no it was from a bottle. Must be something in it that is a trigger for me .

Diet Coke contains artificial sweetner aspartame. Contains "free phenylalanine". Not bound which causes rapid absorbtion . Phenylalanine is one of if not the most toxic amino acid. It can acuse mental issues, autism and multiple other thins. Aspartame is probably the most dangerous sweetner available. The UK government is restudying it as an international body flagged safety concerns recently. Tesco diet cola is better but it still has an artificial sweetner. Better than any other that I am aware of and also cheaper than most. (ASDA used to be cheaper but unsure now).

Hi thank you for your message, I saw on the news a few weeks ago about the links with sweeteners and cancer, I believe Professor Tim Spector of Zoe also says that they are not good for the gut biome. Just a warning re the own brand colas though, the Tesco one has barley malt in it so its not something I would drink, I haven't checked lately but seem to recall that when first diagnosed that only Sainsburys own brand was free of barley malt extract.

Artificial sweeteners can always be a problem. Artificial anything is not what we should be ingesting. It just creates more problems in our gut.

Yes, cola of any type is a problem for me. I did go up the line to Coca Cola (they have a parent company) and they would not tell me the source of the caramel colour they use (i.e. if it was wheat derived) as they said that was a company secret. I find all large multinationals are terrible in their transparency. Only fizzy drink I trust and find ok is Appletiser.
