Help blood test celiac
Hi,
I suggest going back to your doctor for additional support asap.
A weak positive is concerning, because it is still a positive result. This means that your daughter is highly likely to have an issue tolerating gluten. The potential good news is it may have been caught early, which could be a reason for the weak positive - ie less damage has been done to her system so far.
However without the range, unfortunately it is difficult give you good advice with just the results number - because it is common for hospitals to measure antibodies slightly differently.
And although I am a diagnosed coeliac, I think the process for diagnosis in children is a little different (I was diagnosed as an adult), so the age of your daughter is also a factor to consider.
Good luck - I hope you can get your daughter sorted out.
Hi Sunset81,
Welcome to the forum.
I'm sorry your duaghter has been poorly.
I'm a bit confused by your post, as you have asked " is this really bad advice?" but you haven't said what advice you've been given.
Hi Sunset81,
Welcome, sorry to hear of daughter. Firstly does your daughter have symptoms, please keep a list of them. There are many.
Personally, a weak positive is a ‘rubbish interpretation’ of a tTg- IgA test I feel. Apparently anything over 10 mg/L (think I’ve got the unit correct).
Mine were just over 20, I’ve had 2 positive tests but I was so ill, in pain and lethargic that on both occasions, that guess what ? I could barely eat. Doctors do not take that into account and ask about our ability to eat, keep it down etc which I feel should be taken into account.
Please also ask for a print out of her other blood results iron, vitamin B12, calcium, vitamin D and folate.
Plus, I totally agree with regal lady.
Best wishes
I am not an expert on tests. Mine were quite the opposite… so high that I was immediately diagnosed with celiac. But with a weak positive, I would think they would do an endoscopy to confirm celiac. I had an endoscopy several months after going gluten free (for something else) but they were able to tell that the celiac was under control through my diet change at that point.
