Hi Jeanie. In answer to your question this was how it was discovered that I had CD. My symptoms were severe indigestion and severe pain from my gall bladder. I had my gall bladder removed but still had symptoms and this was when CD was discovered. I still have pain even though I have no gall bladder now. Apparently the disease can cause the gallbladder to malfunction. Looking back I had lots of symptoms of CD over the years, like mouth ulcers, anaemia etc but not bad enough to go to the doctors and I knew nothing about CD anyway.

If you have pain with your gall bladder it is best to see if you have gallstones and get it removed. As my pain went on for so long I now have to attend a pain clinic because I have neuropathic pain which is where the nerves are affected by being in pain for so long.

Hope you get sorted soon.

Best Wishes Shirley xxx

Hi Shirley

Thank you for your reply, sorry to hear you are still having health problems.

I was told I had CD when I was 50 and probably had it all my life, they didn't know anything about CD in those days unfortunatley, so I was always poorly and very skinny etc, I was one of seven children, but I am the only one to have CD,not that I would wish this on anyone!.

Having my gallbladder removed next Tuesday, will be glad to get that over with and to be well again.

Sending you good wishes and good health for the future.

Omg. I've had constant pain nr gallbladder for over 6 years now. Diagnosed gluten intolerance with vit b and folate deficiency. Just seen consultant and due to pain on right when lying down I have to have ANOTHER camera down and ANOTHER ultrasound of gall bladder. Having a 2 week blast of lanzoprazole to see if helps.

Thanks jeaniep. I was told by my doctor 6 years ago that I had more than one problem going on. I was sent for ultrasounds. Cytoscopys and all sorts before getting to see gastro 2 years later. By this time I had cut out quite a lot of foods so won't show up if celiac. The first camera down and up they forgot to take biopsys. The. I lost loads of weight so had to have another camera up to rule out pathology. I don't adsorb B12 or folate and it D crashed too. I have always had pain under my ribs. Ultrasounds normal. Now whenever I have an attack they are getting worse. Diagnosed gluten intolerance been off it nor for over 2 years and the consultant and dr looking after me as if I have a diagnosis of celiac. My stomach and weight are all fine now and I have started to have better control of my folate and vit D. B12 still controlled with jabs every 12 weeks..my consultant is diagnosing me now with the second problem of functional gallbladder but before he can he has to do another ruling out. Camera down with biopsys this time and yet again another ultrasound on gallbladder. If diagnosed with functional I am deffo gonna ask for it OUT. I've heard a lot of peeps on here go on about rib pain and having normal ultrasounds ect. So maybe this could be interesting to some peeps xxx

I hadn't really thought about a link between the two things. I am pretty sure I'm just gluten sensitive rather than actually celiac, so my experience might not be that applicable. I did just have my gallbladder out about 3 months ago. Gallstones run in my family, but most of my family never had to have them removed.

My recovery tips so far are:

1. Actually rest. Don't overexert yourself.

2. Do take pain killers. Trying to tough it out slows down healing.

3. Keep a pillow or stuffed animal nearby to hold against your stomach whenever you need to cough, sneeze, or laugh.

4. Avoid amusement park rides and car accidents. (This tip may only be personally applicable, but I'm putting out there just in case.)

After reading the pubmed article that was linked to on Chancery's old thread, I'm am starting to wonder if I really have celiac after all. I only ever tested positive for the AGA IgA antibodies, but I have gluten ataxia and have had gallbladder problems. Of course it could easily just be a coincidence too.

Hi Galixie

You said in one of your earlier posts that you had your Gallbladder removed 3 months ago. I had mine removed a week ago, just wondering how long did it take you to get better?. Hope you are now feeling back to yourself and no more problems.๐Ÿ˜€

The first week was probably the roughest. I was able to go back to work (desk job) the second week after and I continued to steadily improve. 2 months after the surgery I was at the point where if I stretched I might feel a twinge and the muscles near the largest incision were tender if I pressed on them, but otherwise I was fine.

Unfortunately I was then in a car accident. So the third month after my surgery was awful because I had an abdominal wall contusion (which is just a fancy way of saying internal bruising). It took about three and a half weeks for that to heal and now I'm approximately back to were I was 2 months post surgery.

So avoid getting into a car accident and you should be feeling better soon. :)

Hi Galicia

Thank you for your reply, Sorry to hear about the car accident, how awful for you just when you were getting well after your gallbladder removal, but as they say it could have been a lot worse. and I will take your advice and avoid car accidents!!!๐ŸŽ†๐Ÿ™.

Wishing you a full recovery very soon take care.๐Ÿ’†
