Any suggestions for restaurants that can be trusted to provide a genuine gluten free choice in the Newcastle upon Tyne area?

I have always found Nando's to be great. They have an enormous 'bible' with every ingredient for every dish. I've had the chef come out to make sure the non GF chips are not for me. Last time my husband and son went to order the person taking the order insisted on checking every ingredient in the dishes I had chosen - even though I know them off by heart.

We went to Gourmet Burger Kitchen and they do some GF food too and again they checked everything I ordered, the waitress queried why I wanted GF - I think probably because other foods containing gluten are prepared in the kitchen so it is probably not totally GF. I went GF last September to try and reduce my thyroid antibodies - it has been really worth the effort, every time I get tested my antibodies are lower and lower.

Zizzi also have a GF handbook and do stuff that is definitely GF - my friend who is coeliac eats there. La Tasca also do GF food, we've been there with him too.

We're very lucky to have a good pub not to far from here where pretty much everything is GF - someone in the family is coeliac - that is amazingly good although there were so many things that were GF it just seemed too good to be true - it was a leap of faith the first time I went there.

I think Coeliac UK possibly have lists of GF places to eat. Might be worth checking them out. It's worth joining for their food shopping handbook alone though.

Have you tried using coeliacmap.com to see what food places are shown for your area, I have used it a few times and found some good places that way, you can also review any place you find to encourage or warn others.

Good luck
