I am a student of Naturopathy (about 1 year into it), so I don't claim to know everything. However, avoiding gluten is definitely a good idea after bowel cancer, as you are probably suffering from leaky gut, which happens when the lining of the bowel is damaged and allows larger molecules through into the body than it should. You might want to try taking dairy out of your diet too, as it can also cause problems. Slippery elm powder may help, as it coats the lining of the bowel and protects it. Avoid taking any medications at the same time as it, though: leave a couple of hours in between, as it can prevent absorption of them. L-glutamine is a great bowel healer too. I can recommend homeopathy too for healing the bowel. If you can find yourself a homeopath who also uses other naturopathic healing methods too, you should start seeing some results quite soon. Good luck!

Can your doctor refer you to a dietician for advice? There are several other foods that could give you these symptoms.

Hi there, I agree with Penel that you should ask your GP to refer you to a dietician.

Gluten is a long chain molecule so it has to be broken down in our guts before we can digest it. The same goes for lactose (in dairy) now cows milk molecules are a lot bigger than human milk molecules so they have to be broken down before they can be digested, a really good alternative is goats milk as the molecules are he same size as human milk so easier to digest, it still contains lactose. But is an excellent alternative for others.

Many foods can cause gas like sprouts and to much fiber and I find peeled cooking apples much gentler on m system so what you need to do in my opinion is look at eating foods that are easier for you to digest and foods that are very nutritious. And keep off junk food full of fat salt and not much else!

A couple of foods that might interest you are quinoa which's a complete food as it contains all the nutritrients our bodies need and the other is Manuka active honey as that has properties ordinary honey's lack and is good for our digestive system.

And good luck
