Beware of NON gluten free products placed and displayed in FREE FROM sections of big supermarkets. I purchased a 4 pack of Alpro Ginger Bread man desert as I had not seen this new flavour before and when I got home planned to have it after my lunch. It's a good job I read the ingredients list before opening it because it has (WHEAT) in it!!!!!!!.

I phoned Alpro and asked if this product should be displayed in the Free From section and the reply was that it should NOT be in the Free From section and that I should call the supermarket concerned, which I did, they said that it would be removed from that section.

Moral of this story, READ ALL Ingredient lists before consuming.

'Free from' does not mean 'gluten free'. There are lots more dietary requirements that just wheat free, and dairy free is one of them. I am a coeliac and I have no problem with it being in the free from section, as it's for people who are dairy free. The section is not called the 'gluten free section'. It didn't say that it was gluten free, and Coeliacs should know to read the ingredients already.

I agree Anes!

I disagree. Alpro make products from people who are allergic to dairy so their puddings are Free From

Dairy. The free from section also cater for people who are allergic to eggs ( egg free may) wheat, nuts etc. my son has coeliac and is allergic to eggs and until very recently all dairy so we are very grateful for all the Free From items in one place.

I agree! There are more allergies than just gluten, and it's silly to think otherwise!! Alpro isn't a gluten free product, it's not made to be, nor does it falsely advertise to be. It's a dairy free product.

We need to take responsibility for ourselves which is why I now only buy product development on their natural state and then make my own recipes. It saves the heart ache!

And the product certainly SHOULD NOT be removed from the free from section, as it's a free from product!

There is a question of whether rather than a free from section there should be a gluten free section, dairy free section etc. But as certain supermarkets I know seem to mix up gluten free and vegetarian that still needs the customer to be alert.
