I am having trouble toasting G/F bread (usually Genius) and i am now on my second toaster so either i have an uncanny knack at picking dud toasters or i really am that hopeless in the kitchen : - ((
Is anyone else having this problem? And which toaster do you use?

Hello, I use toaster bags, but, I find it GF Bread, does not toast very well, it falls too bits very easily, I have a grill in the top of my oven, so I toast my GF Bread/Rolls etc in the Grill, at least if you put the bread flat on the grill it come out whole, I toast my husbands bread in our toaster, too stop contamination.
Hi Weetam, only a few things can go wrong with using a toaster and this is cutting the bread too thick so it jams or having the toaster setting set too long so the toast burns. If you are using sliced Genius bread then I'd try turning the setting down to low and then turn it up gradually. Gluten free bread tends to toast quicker than normal bread and the crust will burn easily. I make toast using the grill on my cooker but have to watch it like a hawk.
So no your'e not useless in the kitchen just getting used to a new way of doing things. Just make sure that your smoke alarm works...
I actually freeze my Genius bread so it lasts longer and toast it straight from the freezer. That way it doesn't fall apart as easily before you toast it.
We have a four slot Morphy Richards and I toast mine for about 5 mins which seems to work well.
I have a Dualit and have come to the conclusion that the problem is the bread. If I have time, I instead brush the slice very lightly with oil and then "toast" it flat in my counter-top halogen cooker (or under the grill if I'm doing bacon as well). But you must watch it closely as, after what feels like minutes of impatience, it goes from beige and unappetising to charcoal in the space of a few seconds! All the GF breads seem to be difficult to toast well, though the M&S brown is better than most.
I tend to find G/F bread toast a little quicker than normal bread. I just stand and watch it as a matter of course, so i don't burn it, have move the settings accordingly and this seems to have worked!
Hi Weetam
I do not know what you doing wrong. I have been toasting GF bread ffor 17 years and not used any expenxive toasters. If u turn the temperature valve down to what you would on normal bread it should be fine. My toaster for lqast 2 years has been an
Hi. I have been toasting Juvela fresh sliced bread for over 12 months since diagnosis, and have had no trouble at all. I use an ordinary £5 toaster, and just lower temperature, and should be ok. Shouldn't need an expensive toaster. Good luck
We have a four slot toaster but I still use toaster bags so it needs a bit longer. I get my bread online from wheat free bakery in west lothian as its the nearest to real bread (they even do tiger bread) and it handles well
Unfortunately g/f bread doesn't toast well at all. Myself and our daughter have a separate toaster to my husband and our 2 boys. I always have OUR toaster on 3 minutes. I toast once, check it and then put on again. Depending on which bread we have depends on how long to toast for. Always twice but not always a full 2 goes. Some catch (burn) quite easily and some don't. There's a fine line between done and burnt with g/f bread. I don't think it;s your think it's your toaster but can't be for sure, lol. xx
Thanks for all your replies : - )) Some of you are managing ok but thankfully i am not alone in having this issue which means my culinary skills are not as bad as i was fearing..... The problems i have is the bread just toasts on one side even if i turn it round multiple times whilst toasting and burning my fingers in the process lol And this has been the case for both of my last two toasters which were different makes. Here is hoping that it is third time lucky and toastgate can be put to bed once and for all.
Hi, I just use a £10 Sainsbury toaster and is OK. use genious white or brown original.
Glute free flours have a higher melting/browning point. However once they get to that pont everything happens very quickly. You also need to be carefull handljng the toast due to the higher burning temp. I use a bread called pure bread. Made in Ireland imported to Australia frozen. Great bread.
I also just have a Sainsbury's toaster and no problems, had it about 10 years now, when I moved into this rented flat and simply packed away the toaster provided this one has always only been used for gluten free breads, ( pull out the other one if I have visitors)
