Is there anything that is similar to horlicks, (but gluten free of course) I like a hot milky drink on occasion..
I have a hankering for horlicks - Gluten Free Guerr...
I have a hankering for horlicks
How about Choc Shot? It's not Horlick but it's GF! It's a liquid chocolate that can be added to hot milk to make hot chocolate. You can find it in the tea & coffee aisle in the big supermarkets. It's 100% natural, vegan, GM & GF. I even use it in baking. It's delish!
Personally I like to warm up a cup of Alpro's hazelnut milk. I find it quite comforting. That's about the closest I get to Horlicks these days...
We find a good option is to get some good quality chocolate and melt it into milk! Yum!
Yes there is! I have just discovered Macca powder a superfood supplement available in health stores. You can add it to juices and smoothies and I guess hot milky drinks too. It is the nearest smell and taste I have found so far that is similar to malt drinks like horlicks and ovaltine.
Thanks for the replies, I think I'll give the choc shot a try...yum..
I like the sound of the macca powder - thanks for this - I remember the taste of Horlicks especially at the seaside on a cold day! Its about the only thing that I really miss!
Maca can have some unpleasant side effects though (gives me very gyppy tum) and is high is iodine so give it a miss if you have thyroid problems.
This may seem rather odd but my grandmother used to put a bayleaf in hot milk and sometimes a tiny amount of salt. Try it - it's not Horlicks or anything like it. Best with fresh bay leaves, people often grow bay trees but don't use the leaves so it has become a much neglected flavour.
Just bought Choc Shot to try as it's £2.73 on offer in Waitrose at the moment!
