Azarga Roclanda (New here)

I just had a scare when the pressure in my left eye reached 46. I was prescribed Diamox 2*250mg and the pressure went down to 16 after a week. My specialist then changed my therapy to Azarga 2* daily and Roclanda 1* daily. I have been using Ganfort + Cosopt until now.Does it make any difference in which order I use the drops? For example Azarga 8:00 and 20:00 then Roclanda at 23:00

Thank you

shouldn't make a difference. I have been on Azarga for 12 years... you only need to leave 10 minute gap between drops

I have just been diagnosed in May and have been on Azarga. Since December my eyes have been really watery and also really dry. I’m thinking it’s because of the dry winter weather ( I live in Canada). How has your experience been?

I'm sorry I can't help. I've only just started with Azarga but it was in similar conditions to you. Indoor humidity about 20% and outdoors below 0°c and have no problems so far. Hope it works out for you.

Thanks for getting back to me! I have read that it could be caused by the preservative. Seeing my optometrist next month so perhaps I can change drops.

sorry to hear of your diagnoses. I also use a dry eye drop called 'celluvisc 1%', all year round

Thanks for your thoughts... Will see what my optometrist says next month. And I will look into "celluvisc".

Hello GBLucca,

The timings you propose seem OK to me but if you want to be absolutely sure I suggest you 'phone a pharmacist and seek their advice.

I take Roclanda at 23.00 too with my other drops spaced around 1pm and 1am together with diamox capsules. My consultant is happy about these timings and my eye pressures are under control on this regime.

As warwickshire-sing says in their reply, advice is to leave 10 mins between drops and I have always done that with no problems. However, I find the Roclanda more 'uncomfortable' to take and I find I need at least an hour after taking that drop before I can function properly without causing watering eyes, and that includes closing my eues to go to sleep!

Hope the new drops sort you out. Roclanda certainly has helped me.

Best Wishes, Laura

I was told that the 'thinner drop' should be used first. for me, that is Maxidex. so I use Maxidex first and then 10 minutes later I use the 'thicker' drop, Azarga.

I did not know that, thank you. As it happens, with the 2 drops I take twice a day, I do put the thinner drop in first but I've often wondered if it matters. Thanks again for the info warwickshire-singh.

Hi! What the reasoning behind this you think? I take simbrinza first because it's "thicker " and then the others. Maybe I'll switch! 😊

not sure but could be that the 'thinner' drops are easier to absorb?

Hi I asked AI :

Yes, there is a recommended order for glaucoma eye drops, and you're on the right track about thinner solutions going first. Here's the general sequence:

1. Start with the thinnest/most watery drops

2. Move to thicker/more viscous drops

3. Wait at least 5 minutes between different drops to prevent one medication from washing out another

The general order from thinnest to thickest is:

- Beta blockers (like timolol)

- Alpha agonists (like brimonidine)

- Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (like dorzolamide)

- Prostaglandin analogs (like latanoprost)

- Gel-forming drops or ointments (if prescribed)

Thinner drops go first because they can penetrate the eye's surface more quickly and easily. If you put a thicker drop first, it would create a barrier on the eye's surface that makes it harder for the thinner medications to get through and be absorbed effectively.

Think of it like layering liquids in a glass - if you pour water (thin) on top of honey (thick), the water will just sit on top of the honey layer. But if you pour the water first, then add the honey, each layer stays where it needs to be.

The same principle applies to eye drops - starting with thin, watery drops allows them to be absorbed into the eye tissue, and then thicker drops can be added without interfering with the absorption of the first medication.

This is also why doctors recommend waiting about 5 minutes between drops - it gives each medication time to be properly absorbed before adding the next one.

😀

I asked AI for the order of Maxidex and Azarga... it told me that Azarga should be first, whereas I have always put in Maxidex first. I am going to keep them in my order

Hi there. The advice provided above is really good. Azarga twice, and Roclanda once per day as prescribed. As long as the two doses of Azarga are used 12 hours apart, which is what you are doing anyway. Yes thinner drops first as thicker drops can create a barrier. Leave at least 10 minutes between your glaucoma drops.
