Preserflo microshunt experience

Hi I had it done 1 month ago. Although rare apparently , a blood clot in the stent stopped it from working effectively and 2 weeks later I had another op to flush it.The original op was done under local anaesthetic with 2v I have to say painful injections around the eye. The op itself lasted 45 mins approx. Post opThere were a. lot of different drops to take during the day , and the main effect for me was physical fatigue, a bit like having a virus. It lasted for about 10 days. I was signed off for 2 weeks.

I have now had the flushing, and this time my main struggle is that the 2 stitches ( which will be removed after 3 weeks) hurt so when I blink it feels like there is a large grain of sand in my eye. My consultant says that this can happen, though not always and prescribed a lubricant that helps a bit. The other effect is nausea, a weird one. Could be Predforte steroids I am taking. My eyes feel very tired and I have a headache in my effected eye most of the time. I have to add that my vision in my affected eye is very blurred down to optic nerve damage, so I am hoping that once I get the go ahead I can get to the optician and get a proper lens which may help headaches.

I wouldn't hesitate to have this op though.

My pressure was 32 -35 for a long time I tried laser SLT x2 which was a waste of time. After the flush it was 5 and now 19, but we are hopeful to get that down as the Predforte has increased eye pressure as a side effect.

You have my every sympathy with what you have been through. I too have experienced multiple ops for glaucoma and I think one of the hardest aspects of treatment is the uncertainty around outcomes. It’s very waring both physically and mentally. I really hope your unpleasant symptoms improve when you can wean off the steroid drops and have your stitches removed. Are you taking painkillers to help with the headaches ?(paracetamol)

Thank you. I am not keen on pain killers. My headache behind my operated eye has been so bad that I asked my clinic to come in just for a pressure test which was brilliant. I was worried that it was a symptom of high pressure ( as it has berm I'm the past) . 16! So the shunt is working phew.So yes I am now going to go for ibuprofen and paracetamol for sure.

hi I had same operation in July 2023 for both eyes. Pressures went crazy 49/51 and operating was only solution now at 12/16 which appears to be my natural range. Although some after affects nothing to bad but my night vision for driving seems to have been affected. In particular the new Blue LED headlights really make me wince. Given time the eyes will adjust and settle the bonus is of course no more drops .
