Has anybody gone from being long sighted to short sighted even allow long distance lens had been put in after cataract surgery or so they say
Short sighted : Has anybody gone from being... - Glaucoma UK
Short sighted
Yes. I thought they must have put the wrong lens in but haven't had time to question it properly. I had it done in November. Still having to wear glasses for clear distance vision.
Me to having a second opinion on 3rd Oct but don't hold out much hope as they say it's within acceptable measurements but I don't understand how I can be long sighted and have long sighted lens put in and become short sighted. I hold out no hope as once it's done that's it
I agree and the NHS eye service is so overworked at my clinic that it's difficult to get a proper discussion and assessment .
They have you all ways but does not help when your eye goes pear shape the only thing u can do is contact pals but it has to be with in a year
I'm just putting up with it, I have progressive glaucoma so other eye issues to deal with. I hope you get some answers in October.
Life is no fun. Putting up with it is all I think we can do.
Hi. When you say you have gone from long sighted to short sighted after the lens replacement during cataract surgery.. by how much do you mean? Is it slightly short sighted now.. I.e. a minor prescription of -1.0 or less… or more significant?
The reason I ask is that I had similar surgery four years ago. My old prescription was -14.0 (hence blind as a bat!) but reduced to -1.0 after the new lens were put in. I was informed by the surgeon BEFORE the surgery that he would not aim for perfect sight and would instead aim for a minor short sight prescription ( which is exactly what the outcome was). He explained the reason for this is that if they aim for perfect sight then there is always a tolerance risk of the surgery being slightly out and you could end up with a minor long sighted prescription which is something they aimed to avoid. Whereas a minor short sighted prescription was an acceptable outcome (easier to manage and live with apparently).
This may explain your outcome but without knowing all the details it’s hard to say. Hope it works out for you.
It was 1.5 long sighted now 1.5 short sighted
I can understand why you’d find that frustrating and want some answers. Good luck Jane.
When you are -14.0 to start with and have debris on your old natural lens causing you problems… and after the surgery your lens is clear, white is white and not yellow, and you can wake up in the morning and not need glasses or contact lens to get ready… it’s a revelation!
Except for still having to deal with glaucoma and poor visual fields that is!!
Good luck…
