hello, I have Glaucoma in my right eye and left eye has ocular hypertension. Have had it over 2 years and drops are controlling the pressures. I have the letter re my latest hospital visit and it says Visual acuity as 6/5 for both eyes and also says my visual field test remain within normal limits. Does this mean I have not least any vision or if I have it’s minimal and is Visual acuity results ok. Thanks
Visual field test & Visual Acuity : hello, I... - Glaucoma UK
Visual field test & Visual Acuity
I can’t give you a technical answer to this, but if you had any sight loss due to Glaucoma you would already be aware of this.
thanks for your reply 🙂
6/5 on visual acuity is very good. It is near the bottom of the Snellen chart where the letters are smaller. It doesnt sound that there has been any more progression and everything is stable and well maintained, so nothing to worry about.
Hello,
Visual acuity 6/5 means that, with your central vision ( straight-ahead vision), you can from 6 meters away a line of letters when on average others with normal eyesight can only see when they are 5 meters away. You also have normal visual fields, which means no peripheral vision loss. So, excellent results!
By the way, how were you diagnosed with glaucoma if you don't have peripheral vision loss?
I have no sight loss..yet but glaucoma in right eye
I was diagnosed two years ago just my right eye as they said there was evidence of thinning and differences in my optic nerve. My left eye has slightly raised pressures but no signs on my optic nerve so ocular hypertension on that eye. Thanks very much for your reply I am delighted with the results and don’t need another review for 12 months so they must be happy with me. I feel very lucky that it’s controlled and not causing me any issues yet. Good luck to you on your Glaucoma journey 🙂
