Hi all. Im looking for some advice please because im really struggling with my parents and im unsure where else to turn. My dad was diagnosed with Glaucoma a few years ago. He has had varies operations to try and relive his pressures. In February last year he was advised to have a cataract operation. He had this successfully the year before so saw no problem. Since the cataract op his eyesight has deteriorated dramatically. He says he has a thick mist constantly. He has had to give up driving and has lost all independence. Its had a massive impact on his mental health as well as my mums mental health. His consultants at the hospital have said that his glaucoma is stable so they dont know what the problem is. I am not sure he has accepted that he probabaly wont get his eyesight back so im looking for some support. Anything to help him round the house and out and about but also financial help for them and any support with their mentalhealth. Many thanks for reading and for any replies.

I’m so sorry to hear your parents are struggling. It may be worth seeking a second opinion on your dads condition, I have heard it is very rare, but sometimes a film forms after a cataract operation, just a thought.
Is your father in touch with his GP? It might be that he needs help with his depression before he can start to deal with his sight problems.
I would agree with Nala2509. Cloudy vision is a fairly common problem that can develop after cataract surgery. It is easily corrected by a quick and painless laser procedure - yag laser capsulotomy. Definitely encourage your dad to get help.
Good luck.
Sounds very much like the misting that occurs after cataract surgery which occurs with many patients. From what I recall its a relatively straight forward procedure. I'm surprised the consultant hasn't picked up on it. Maybe you could take this up with him. Good luck with getting your dad sorted.
Hello hazza1982, I am very sorry to hear about your dad . The treatment and management of glaucoma is long standing balancing act. We need to accept the reality as it is which is the very difficult to do. I am sure the Ophthalmologist will look after him. Please always contact with the specialist's team and discuss or any question or concern about any situation. We are in the same boat and are trying to support each others. With best wishes.
Hi, same happened to me about 18 months following cataract surgery.
Solution for me was a "yag" as has been mentioned.
Procedure was quick and painless, see if his GP can give him a referal or even the Opticians that he uses.
Regards
Depending on hiw his condition progresses you may wish to consider whether he meets the criteria for registration as sight impaired or severely sight impaired. Also attendance allowance and an adult social needs assessment via your local council may be worth considering.
Hi there, following on from the comments above, the mist can be quite a common problem. It sounds like something called posterior capsule opacification, which can occur due to some of the remaining cells growing back after cataract surgery. There is a very useful information page here - rnib.org.uk/your-eyes/eye-c....
I would highly recommend getting in touch with the eye secretary to discuss this with his eye specialist, as a simple laser procedure can be done to fix this. Hope this helps.
