After a recent visit to the eye clinic for glaucoma monitoring, I did the usual acuity and field test. A short time afterwards, I got called back for another fields test. On that test, all the flashes seemed to be in the central part of the field of vision whereas normally I get the full test involving central and peripheral flashes. Can anyone explain what they're checking for? The person conducting the test was a nurse so I didn't ask him about it.

The first VFT may have been inconclusive which is why you were asked to redo it but only to concentrate on the central vision.
The nurse would have been an ophthalmic nurse and would have been able to explain why this was being done.
The best thing to do to get clarification why this was done would be to call the eye secretary. They will be able to check with the consultant and get back to you.
Hello tcpce, There are different programmes for visual field test depending on the VF lost. Sometimes I was asked to do two different tests at the same time e.g one for central vision. I was always explained by the Ophthalmologist in advance and also by VT ophthalmic technician. As Trish said you can always ask about this to the eye specialist for clarification. With best wishes.
Thanks balacakkhu. I had no explanation whatsoever - it was done at the hospital Eye Clinic where I get checked every 6 months. Thinking back, on the previous VFT, the session got interrupted about halfway through. Instead of restarting the session from scratch, the nurse/technician apparently resumed the test and I'm wondering if that's the reason for the recall soon afterwards.
