Hello. I am hoping you mean that each time you go to the eye clinic you are seen by someone else and not a consultant.

This is not unusual. Most people are seen by a consultant initially and then after that, they are seen by a registrar or junior doctor who are under the consultants clinic, and they are all as qualified as the consultant. If they have concerns, they can speak to the consultant. If a persons glaucoma is not well controlled, or they are concerns, these are the people who tend to be seen by a consultant.

Ive only ever seen a Specialist once….then monitored yearly by a technician (probably slightly more advanced than an Optician)…..have an eye test, then the field test….then she puts drops in my eyes and checks them.

At my annual visit I only see a technician, not a doctor, but my diagnosis is still ocular hypertension.

They do the Snellen test, retinal screening, and a pressure test - that’s all. I’m assuming that’s enough to guide them, and that I’d be recalled if there were any concerns. Interestingly they don’t do the field vision test any more and I have to ask what my pressures are. As I’ve had to redo the field vision test 3 times at Specsavers, I’m bewildered that they’re no longer conducting this test.

When my licence is reviewed in 3 years (I’m 77) I will not be declaring my well managed ocular hypertension, as I don’t think it’s mandatory. But I would like to know if the hospital have any concerns about my fitness to drive. I’m an honest person, who wouldn’t drive if I felt I could not see well, but the thought of multiple recalls for unexplainable reasons, I find disproportionately concerning.
