For many many years I never saw a consultant, quite often I was seen by an optometrist who had the glaucoma training, if you're not seeing a consultant take that as a positive that your glaucoma is well controlled and giving no cause for concern

I think sadly it’s becoming very common now . I never saw a consultant , though did see the one under that is like one called an associate specialist ophthalmologist. A lot of the time now the consultants tend to only see the more complex cases and other times “ review” other cases by information supplied to them by the team , this is suppose to reduce waiting lists and because of back logs and ongoing staff shortages ..

It can however vary depending where you live as some still get to see them .

Hi, I too get concerned as I haven't seen a consultant for my glaucoma for several years now. The only time I have seen one is in July when I had my first cataract op - and that was only on the day. And will see one again on Monday for my second op.

On one of my many visits to A&E a couple of years ago the person I saw worked out a, treatment plan, checked it with a consultant, who was happy and decided to take over my problems, on a, subsequent visit she informed me that I should be grateful for her time as her patient list was full to overflowing, so definite advantages to not seeing a consultant
