Has anyone had the baerveldt implant? My son is having surgery to fit this next week, wondering how quick the recovery is? He only has a little sight in the eye that's being operated on, no sight in the other eye so we're hoping it won't affect his vision for too long...

Recovery is around 6-8 weeks. Shunt surgery has a good success rate. Your sons consultants aim is to help keep and maintain the vision that your son has. If he felt this was not the right option for your son and it was too risky, it would not have been suggested. You do not say how old your son is. If he is an adult, he should discuss any concerns he has with his consultant or if you are his guardian, you can discuss this with his consultant.
Hello Dodie68, I have just been reading through some older posts and saw yours regarding your son’s implant. I had a Paul tube implant six weeks ago so am very interested to know how your son is going on. There doesn’t seem to be that many posts on here about tube implants unfortunately! Regards, Gill
