Hi there Just wondered if anyone using lantanoprost has discoloured eyelids ?

My eyes aren't sore at all but since using the drops for about the last year my eyelids are a pinky colour so it looks like I'm wearing a horrible eyeshadow

I don't always wear make up just thought if there was anything I could do as it doesn't look great it makes me look tired all the time or that I have been crying

I love this site reading all the blogs makes me feel I'm not alone with glaucoma

Hi

To your question.By the using od Lanaprost drops is in informations paper to medikament the posibility to change the colour of skin by eys.But mostly to more dark.See the papers to medikament.lt is one of negative propeties of prostaglandins.

But l mean the most important is the effect on glaukom. Seeing is the most important I think.

But you can disscus the problem with doktor and to try other type of medikament .But prostaglandins are Number one now.

So a quick info.l wish the best for you.

I have glaucom cca five years and l know.lt is not easy.

Kind regards

Petr

Hello Ocicka

I have been diagnosed with glaucoma since October 2022 and using lantanoprost since then and also have some discolouration, like you this makes me look tired and sad. I don’t wear eye makeup but I have been using a facial concealer the type with a built in brush on my eyelids and under the eye which helps. On the positive side my eyelashes are darker and longer than they have ever been.

Good luck!

Hi, I've been using Latanoprost for the last 6 months and noticed that my eyelids have reddened slightly as has under my eyes so it looks like I have pink eyeliner and my eyes do have a 'tired' look. It's my choice not to wear eye make up now, unless going somewhere special, so I live with it but it really depends on how much it bothers you. I'm not sure there is much that can be done other than covering with make up or changing drops, worth asking your consultant maybe? I did know that this was a side-effect beforehand as was the possible changing of eye-colour, thankfully, as I have blue eyes this hasn't happened so far, long may that remain the case!!

I’ve only been using Monopost for six weeks but my eyes do feel sore in the morning and dry through the day. I am using eye drops to lubricate them and a heated eye mask. I think my eyes do look red, tired and sunken. My glasses help to cover this and I rarely wear eye makeup. I have hazel eyes so wait to see if they change colour. If it wards off glaucoma, it’s a small price. This is a great site to share anxieties and get information.

Are the prostaglandin drops better than tiopex? I'm only using them in one eye for suspected glaucoma.

Hi Skyepies, According to the patient info leaflet, this is quite a common side effect. I've been taking latanoprost in my left eye for just over a year, and this effect was apparent within a few weeks. I've been taking it in my right eye since March, and my eyes are now beginning to look the same! The good thing is that my left eyelashes are thicker now, and this is starting to happen with my right eye. This is quite a big issue for me. And what makes it worse is that I feel I shouldn't be so bothered by a mere change in appearance. But I am bothered. Every time I look in the mirror there are these plum coloured, bruised looking, discoloured eyelids making my eyes look sunken and older. It's bad enough having glaucoma , without it being written all over my face, so to speak!

So what do I do about it? I wear eye brightener/ concealer on the eyelids and below the eye. This has a brightening effect. It doesn't entirely solve the problem but it helps significantly. I like Clinique. It does an' airbrush concealer' which comes in a range of shades for different skin tones. Most make up brands will have some kind of similar product. I don't use it every day as I think it's best to avoid interfering with the eye area , to avoid infection risk etc. I just use it if I'm feeling particularly fed up with my look, or if I'm going out .

I hope this helps!

Best wishes,

Iona

Hi! I was on Lantanoprost for about 2-3 years and I’ve been on Bimatoprost for about 3-4 years I think. Both have similar side effects. Since using I have developed the pink skin around the eyelid and lower lid. I also have developed a sort of “owl-y” sunken eye appearance with darker hollows around my eyes. My eyes are blue, but they were a pale blue grey and I think they’re more almost pale greeny sea blue. Could be my imagination though. But noticed it with my mom who also uses same drops as she has glaucoma too.

Like you, I don’t habitually wear makeup now. Just for going out on special occasions I do wear a concealer to tone down the darkness and a bit of mascara as my lashes are very thick and long now. I change my makeup every 3 mths to keep things as hygienic as possible.

I used to wear contact lenses occasionally but stopped a year ago and wear glasses as I need reactolite lenses as I’m more sensitive to bright light these days.

I think it looks like I’ve aged a lot in the last few years thanks to my sunken eye appearance but I care much less about what I look like these days. More concerned with my general well-being and keeping my eyesight as long as possible. 👍🏻

I've been on Monopost for many years and other drops before that - I can honestly say that eyelid discolouration isn't something that I've particularly noticed as my skin has changed generally over the last few years, partly, I think, due to my rheumatoid arthritis meds.

The underlying uveitis disease I have in my right eye caused it to turn from brown to green at first as heterochromia is one of the symptoms. Then, over time, due to the drops, back to brown and now it's much darker than my left. And my eyelashes are much longer. I'm far more bothered by the irritation, partly due to the uveitis and now dry eye issues. It sometimes looks incredibly red and sore. I think the lid started drooping a bit following several surgeries.

I've noticed my eyebrows getting thinner - arthritis meds maybe? And my hair is like straw. I feel more dehydrated and have a lot of pain in my hands. I just had a bone scan which I suspect will highlight osteoporosis as I was borderline 4 years ago. So tbh I stopped caring too much what I look like really. I do sometimes dye my hair when I can be bothered as I was very dark when I was younger and it's a bit weird when I do look in the mirror and see a mop of grey! But, overall, I'm just relieved to still be able to see and drive following cataract surgery in my left eye as I'm now blind in my right.

Never sure whether some of my symptoms are due to my eye meds, the RA meds or just getting older - I'm 63 now.

One of the most common side effects for any eye drop that is a prostaglandin is cnaging of skin around the eyes and thickening of the eyelashes. Someones, it can also cause colour change of the iris which is permanent.
