Bilateral iridotomies and high pressures

Hi Everyone,

I went for my 6 week follow up appt. 3 months post procedure due to shortage of appts. I had been told to stop the latanoprost 1 week before the appt.

My pressures were 25 but I was told that the laser treatment had been successful but I needed drops for life.

I don't understand how the pressures were so high and yet the iridotomies were successful.

Any explanations would be appreciated as I'm new to glaucoma.

Thank you.

Sometimes, although the laser has been successful in reducing the eye pressure,, it doesn't always reduce it enough to warrant stopping the eye drops. This is why they still want you to carry on taking the drops. The normal range for eye pressure is 10mmHg -21mmHg. As you are still outside of this range, you will need to use the drops to reduce the eye pressure even more to a more stable, safer level.

Iridotomies aren't necessarily done to lower eye pressures. They are a preventative measure to help avoid angle closure leading to rapid and large pressure rises. It does sound like they have been a success and should at least give you one less thing to worry about.
