hi

Is the an alternative to Latanoprost drops, that doesn’t need to be kept chilled?

It’s the hassle of being on holiday and trying to maintain a chilled storage.

If there is an alternative can I mix and match with latanprost or would it have to be a permanent switch? The latanoprost is obviously prescribed

Thanks

Fridgy (no pun intended)

There’s a brand called FRIO that does an eye drop wallet. It’s sold on Amazon. Basically you soak the thing in water to activate the cooling gel

Does Latanoprost have to be kept chilled? The version I usually have (Xalatan) just says store below 25degrees - but that's warm!

Hi, I have recently been prescribed Bimatoprost and this does not need to be kept in the fridge. The hospital changed me to this as my initial drops were not reducing my eye pressure sufficiently - I had previously been using Latanoprost and bought the FRIO wallet, which worked well.

I’ve had many different makes of generic Latanoprost over the years. Some need to be keep cold some not. I never keep the open bottle in the fridge and if I travel for more than a couple of days (I’m often away for work) I always take extra bottles of my drops including Latanoprost and never keep them chilled. I do ensure that’s the bottle I use next though. I think it’s for long term storage not for when you’re using it - I guess the active ingredient isn’t stable at higher temperatures for a long time. Double check the information leaflet but I’m pretty sure when I first read it the instruments to store below 5 and then below 25 once opened.

I agree with the above it is my understanding that lataoprost is kept chilled until opened but then can be used without chilling for the thirty days it is active.

MONOPOST is the Preservative free version of Latanoprost and needs no refrigeration at all and I have had 2 little containers in my bag for a few weeks - I just need someone to PUT THEM IN MY EYES and my SHOPPING LADY s away so I wont be having anything more in until 12th April - why can people not just accept that I CAN NOT PUT DROPS IN - we have a hole in the middle of our face for FOOD - 2 NOSTRILS with which to breath AND A HOLE IN EACH EAR but with the eyes it is just a case of hit and miss and I prefer now not to think about the entire situation and I advise just keeping the fingers crossed and hoping for the best and I place all my trust in my GUARDIAN ANGEL

There is a special drop dispenser for the Monopost single use phials that might help. You can get it from the Monopost manufacturer (Thea) - it's called the Thea Eyot.

Thank you - people have told me about this before but I can not see it being much help

Hi,

I had the same issue and my GP switched me to Xalatan, Pfizer's brand for Latanaprost, which doesn't require refrigeration .

Hope this helps,

Dave

Do you know that Xalatan is a mixture of Timolol and Latanoprost?

Hi, look online at FRIO which are pouches designed to keep your eye drops cool when travelling. Think I saw them mentioned on here ages ago but have not bought them yet. Hope this helps.
