hi, has anyone got any feedback following a MIGS procedure please? What did you have? Did it work? How much did it drop your pressures?

Hello Welshsailor,

I have had two Preserflo microshunts implanted, the first in 2020 and the second eye op in 2021. Both with a local anaesthetic and neither op was painful or problematic. The staff were very kind and helpful.

Since the operations my pressures have improved although still a bit varied but mostly in the 9-14 range which seems to keep the medics happy.

I do have dry eyes now and instill regular lubricant drops, otherwise no other medications.

My eyesight is relatively stable although I need stronger reading glasses and get easily dazzled in the sun.

One operation was to stop the fairly rapid loss of vision in one eye and the other was to prevent changes to the good eye. This does seem to have worked, so I am lucky.

Best wishes

thanks for your story. Did you try drops before MIGS?

Had you lost a lot of vision before diagnosis?

What were your pressures before surgery?

Yes, on drops for several years before surgery, some caused allergies or were ineffective. The last one, Simbrinza caused sore eyes but was eventually also ineffective. Two Laser treatments were good for about 6 months each time then my elevated pressures returned .

The fields of vision deteriorated gradually but then I seemed to suddenly loose some central vision in one eye ,( which I confirmed by closing the good eye). I had taken a course of high dose steroids for two weeks for a suspected Giant cell arteritis prior to the vision loss. Luckily all the results for this disease were negative.

Most of the eye pressures pre op were in the high teens but very variable. The consultant always said that he aimed for the low teens for me . I expect your consultant would let you know which pressure levels would be ideal for you. I can still do most things including some driving.

Best wishes

Pressures were 21 before Ganfort drops and they have brought it down to 15. He has added another drop brinzolamide which he hopes brings it down to 10-12

I am 74 yrs old and I have had occular hypertension in 2015 and glaucoma diagnosed in 2016. My mother had glaucoma and also my elder sister, but she is well controlled on eye drops.
