Dear ChrisNorthEast, In general all the different types of treatment including surgery for Glaucoma is better chance of protecting vision. The optic nerve damage is irreversible.....! However one of the speakers said there are a few cases reported there were some improvement. I notice there are also few other questions from you as you are the newly diagnosed. Please continue visit Glaucoma UK which contains very useful informations. You may not remember everything in the short period of time. Please note down what do you want to discuss with your consultant next hospital clinic appointment. We are also here to support each other. With best wishes.
