Istents and cataract surgery but pressures still high

Hi,

I'm new here and looking for some support and advice. I was diagnosed with glaucoma 12 years ago at 38. My pressures have always varied from 18 to 35 (when I was first diagnosed).

The last 3 months they have gone up to 45 despite new drops. As a result I had a cataract operation in both eyes and istents put in both eyes 2 weeks ago.

Since the operation the pressure in my right eye went up to 59!! I'm on 6 different drops various times of the day and today they are now at 30 in one eye and 7 in the other.

I've been to the eye hospital 4 times in the last 10 days and am back on Friday.

I'm just wondering what the hell is next step...does anyone have any advice or support?

Thanks all

I'm much older than you and only had one eye operated on...goniotomy and cataract removal. Pre-op pressure in that eye was 30. Immediately post op...20. One week later it was 33! Like you I was on multiple drops....steroids to stop the scarring, pilocarpine to counteract the pressure raising effect of the steroids and still taking my regular pressure lowering drops. Two weeks later pressure was 27.... now tailing off the steroid drops more rapidly and continuing with pilocarpine and others.Like you I was very anxious about the apparent failure of the op to lower the pressure. However I understand that cataract surgery itself can raise the pressure temporarily and the steroid drops can also have the same effect. Some people are more susceptible than others.

I've calmed down a bit now and am continuing with the drop regime and will be seen again in August. I guess it will have to be done again if the pressure is still high. I guess that doesn't explain why only one of your eyes is affected by high pressure.

I feel for you.
