There is no reason you shouldn’t drive yourself, you don’t have any eye drops or anything that would affect your normal sight. Just a bit of effort to keep your eyes wide open for the test. Most of us find it pretty stressful though, as so much depends on it, so if you do have someone that could go with you that might be nice.

You should always get someone to take you and never drive yourself, even if you are just going for your normal gluacoma check you should never drive yourself. It said in the letter at least it does in mine when I go for a gluacoma check ups. I had almost the same problem as you but not as far, my trip would be a 60 miles round trip in any direction, by that I mean that there is one in Newtown 30 miles away and one in Brecon in the other direction also 30 miles away so whichever Specsavers I choose I would have to travel, please trust me don't driver yourself. It is unfair we should not be in this position that we have to travel or that Specsavers should have the monopoly over our local opticians. Best of luck

I can understand NOT driving to a glaucoma check appointment as they might give me eye drops to dilate my pupils. As the drops take at least 4 hours to wear off, I would either have to hang around, or drive whilst impaired.

I've had the DVLA field test at Specsavers twice now. They do not give eye drops, you are just sat in front of the field test thingy. So personally I drive to them. Whilst it is nice to have company for anxiety raising events, it is entirely up to how you feel about it. Kind regards to you.

I would ask someone else to take me because I have other health problems and I am not able to drive long distance and my nearest Specsavers is a 60 miles around trip in either direction, so I would ask someone to take me, not because I am not a confidence driver just because of other health problems . I was glad that was able to take mine in my local opticians where I know everybody unfortunately you are not allowed to do it that way anymore, I don't agree with Specsavers having the only licence it is not right. Best wishes

Hi Heskey16, you are allowed to drive yourself as long as you feel safe to do so or unless told otherwise. If you are not confident, it might be best to ask someone to help as 100 miles is quite a long way. Alternatively, if there are any train routes available to you, then you could consider getting the train there.
