I’m completely stressing about my test at Specsavers yesterday.
I’m having to renew my licence at 70 which is crucial as I run a business & my husband doesn’t drive.
I have glaucoma in one eye but poor vision in other eye having had problems last 15 years. Always had good vision with glasses , 6 monthly visits to my local opticians .
Did the test last Friday with my local opticians to give me confidence yesterday.
However at the Specsavers appointment passed field test with no negatives.
Then to an unpleasant young man who first tried to test my vision without my glasses on!!! Of course could not really see.
Then passed all he asked me to read with them on . Was this normal & why?

Seems to vary from region to region. I can only comment on my tests. ( 15 years) Last year I was allowed as many tries as I wanted, with and without glasses. Did 4 in total with only one missed point each time. You are entitled to printouts of the tests so should make sure you ask for this before the tests start. I have 30% loss of FofV in left eye and 10% in left. All in the top sector which does not affect driving. I have seen somewhere (possibly on DVLA site) a diagram showing that for driving the crucial area is an envelope shape across the central field.
Hi thanks for your reply , however it wasn’t the field test passed that 100% 2nd time.
It was when I went to another room to see optician who firstly asked me to read things without my glasses which seemed pointless as I wear glasses all the time with good corrective sight and have been short sighted since 13 so can never see without them.
However when he asked me to read letters with them on read every single line. This gas unnerved me as I’m now stressed about decision as I run a business which helps us survive!!
Apparently that's the requirement for visual acuity (eye chart). Glasses off first, then glasses on second. My argument with my Specsavers branch is I want/need visual field test first, then visual acuity as I have to take out my contact lenses first, then put them in again, then try and do visual field test with blurred lenses. You shouldn't have any problem as you've demonstrated you can read everything and that's what's needed.
I'm new here too - this is just to commiserate really and say your situation sounds very worrying for you and I can understand that. I am beside myself with worry and stress as I too have to have the DVLA test and, if my licence is revoked, it will change how my life works now.
I'm having to wait nearly a month for the test which I'm finding unbearable. I have got other branches of Specsavers I can try, so I might see if I can get an earlier one, although they're further away.
Best wishes to you and I hope it works out well for you. Apparently 9I read) only 12% of those DVLA tested have their licence revoked, so I take some courage from that.
I did my dvla test a few months ago. I did the glasses off and glasses on test. I couldn’t read the very small print at bottom of chart. I passed anyway.
