Going to try local anastethia for the first time after having multiple invasive procedures under general Anastasia. I’m a bit scared. Not too much but would love to hear good experiences of local Anastasia.
Thank you

I have had two eye operations involving Local Anaesthesia since 2020.
Like you I was worried before the first one.
I expect you will be offered a pre op check a few weeks before the op.
I saw a very helpful nurse who answered my questions and this made quite a difference.
On the day everyone was so kind and explanations were given at each stage.
The anaesthetist carefully injected some gel which numbs the eye, so that I did not feel the operation. Do make sure you are really comfortable before they start , especially support for your neck ,and as operating theatres are often chilly ask for any extra blankets until you are cosy.
You see very little just a bright light and if you want anything you can just put your arm up (rather than talking) until they stop to see what the problem may be.
My second op was so much easier as I knew what to expect. Both ops made me feel tired afterwards for a few weeks , but I think a General Anaesthetic has potentially more side effects. Also you may be fit to go home much sooner with a local.
I have a friend who had two successful corneal grafts, she seems very happy with life.
