I have read through many posts about the Esterman test and took your advice to make positive changes. Today I took an independent test at a different SPECSAVERS from where I took my DVLA test. In the meantime, I have bought two new pairs of spectacles. I failed using those with dark rims, but SUCCEEDED with rimless ones. I used a HENSON 9000 machine and the operator allowed me to move my head in the direction of the moving fixation point. I am pleased to report this enabled me to gain 100%, unlike my attempt in July. From my experience, I believe we are being let down by inconsistencies within the SPECSAVERS group. I wonder how long it will be before I am given the opportunity to retake the test. In my local SPECSAVERS they have been unable to offer independent tests due to staff shortages. Thank - you everyone for your support, thus far.

USEFUL ADVICE FROM GLAUCOMA UK about DVLA FV test
Quote," allowed me to move my head in the directives of the fighting point" unquote. I understand this is not the correct way of the visually field test. Please correct me if I am wrong.
There appears to be so many inconsistencies with the interpretation of the instructions for the Esterman Field Vision Test. The Henson machine was different from the Humphrey, in so much as the response button was more positive or perhaps less worn. However, the result when I was allowed to move my head in the direction of the moving fixation point, was consistent with what the Consultant reported: no central vision loss.
Thanks, I see it is for central vision field test.
Interesting to hear about your experience with the DVLA and Specsavers.
I also found the Hensons machine easier when I used it for the first time this year.
Did you see last weeks webinar about the DVLA tests ? It was given by a Specsavers Doctor who explained quite a lot, she seemed interested in all the questions she recieved about wearing glasses , which type etc for the test. The webinar is usually available on line a few weeks later.
She said it was best to contact the DVLA via email : glaucomaqueries@dvla.gov.uk.
Apparently there are many Q&A's on the Specsaver website .
Best wishes for your next Specsaver test.
Hi muddledme, I will look for that webinar as it will be interesting to watch. I actually passed my DVLA test (they seem to be getting back to us a lot quicker now) but as TrescoPaddler said there does seem to be a lot of inconsistencies in what we are told at the time of taking the test. Feeling quite sad at having to send in my licence now to have it changed to a medical one to be reviewed in 3 years. I know I’m lucky in so many ways, but I guess it just hit home when I read it.
Hi TrescoPaddler, I too think the glasses rims can make a difference, but at least now you are much more aware of the conditions of the tests and I wish you well with your retake of the test.
I so agree.
Thank you for updating us all. I sent in my "Challenge" with evidence as required back in March and heard nothing back as yet...
