Presser flow shunt in place

Hi ,well I live to tell the tale , I had my op last Wednesday I was sooo nervous but had amazing nurses and drs looking after me !

I had a general and 6 hrs in total I was home ,felt sore and prickly as you would expect lots and lots of drops to put in daily.

I saw my consultant on the Friday and pressures were down but too far down would you believe? Only 4

turns out I had a leak going on with my plumbing 😄 so I had to take some tablets for two days .

Back to see him again today leak seems to have stopped but pressures still too low but the shunt is working thank the Lord. I had an eye scan today also and that was ok.

Back to see him next week ,I’m so grateful to be in good hands everyone sings this mans praises I know I certainly do. Just glad it’s all over and just to let people know it’s just our thoughts that are the scariest thing.

I'm so glad it's over and you have survived to tell the tale. 😃I was thinking of you and wondering how you were. I agree thinking about it is so much scarier than actually going through it. Fingers crossed next week your pressure will be up and you continue to recover well. Take it easy and let your eye heal. X

Thank you I still have my cough and cold but today my consultant's secretary phoned to see how I was and if I was fit for my op and I'm booked in for Dec 8th at 12 😁. Hopefully by the time I have my op you will be well on in your recovery. Let's hope 2022 will be a year of no eye ops and low eye pressure 🤞 x

Thank you for your message , it is a worryingly time and we all have our bad moments I am a very anxious person anyway but we have to put our trust in the drs that they will do their best for us . Take care of yourself.

Hi Ilovecake,

I’m glad to hear your surgery went well; I have a shunt scheduled for tomorrow and am terrified as I only have vision in one eye.

Do you mind if I ask how long your eye was blurry for after the operation? I also understand you need to administer drops every two hours; how long is that for? I struggle to put drops in myself and don’t have anyone who can be here that frequently.

Hi Toby , firstly please don’t be terrified, I understand you only have sight in one eye but the blurriness after the op isn’t so bad that you cannot see properly i infact I kept covering my good eye to see the difference and it wasn’t a great difference.There are quite a lot of drops to put in for at least two months in my case ,four different lots if I remember correctly. One is administered four times daily , another twice daily for two weeks ,the others I can’t recall , you say you have difficulty putting them in yourself so perhaps you could have the nurse help show you the best way to do it because it’s very important that you do get all of them in correctly at the right time for the right number of weeks for a successful outcome . Please don’t fret about it even though it sounds daunting.

My first shunt has been a great success even with scarring from a previous failed trabeculectomy, I now do not put any drops in that eye the pressure is down to 12 and my consultant is very happy , I have just signed consent forms to have my left eye done which will be within a couple of months and then I shall be drop free.
