Trab went well

I just wanted to share that my trab on Tuesday went very well, despite my fears about having only a local anaesthetic. I got some great support from people on here back in the summer when I knew it was on the cards which was very helpful. I was made very comfortable and didn't feel a thing, not even the anaesthetic going in, eventhough it felt like I was in the theatre for quite a long time. I know many if you on this forum have had the same op, but for anyone who may have it in future, thinking about it was definitely worse than the actual thing. 24 hours later feeling fine, slight double vision at first but that's gone and can see well. Pressure at 17 is a bit higher than I had hoped so there maybe some adjustments in my follow up appointments. 🤞

I'm glad your trab is over and it went well for you. The thought of it is so much worse than the actual op itself. Don't get hung up on the pressure,it can take a while to settle . I had to do ocular massage on my eye post trab, as I was healing too quickly and for me that worked a treat. My pressure is steady at 16 and my op was February. Just take this time to recuperate and wait and see what the consultant says at your next appointment.

Thank you for your reply. My consultant is a bit worried that I might heal too well - he said he was swimming against the tide so good to know there are options that work, like the ocular massage. Am not very good at being patient. Glad that your pressure is stable xx

My consultant said pretty much the same to me as the day after my trab I could read down to third bottom line of the sight test and had no blurriness at all. By the following week my pressure was up and that's when I had to start my ocular massage. I was terrified but he showed me exactly what to do and my pressure came down. At the end of four weeks my pressure was 14, I was off all the drops and could resume my life . A trab is probably one of the few ops where healing quickly is a bad thing. My pressure then stabilised at 16, ideally he wanted 14. He did mention needling to me at one point if the massage hadn't work. I'm not good at being patient either. Are you being seen weekly for the first month ? Just try to relax and not worry and see what your next appointment brings. I'm a hypocrite as I know this is easier said than done. X

Thank you, its so helpful to hear about your experience. I'll read up about massage and needling so I can go to my next appointments prepared. I have 2 booked in so we'll see how they go. This is such a brilliant group 😊

Hopefully your pressure will be down and you won't need any intervention . If you do need to massage it's so easy to do and for me very effective. Your consultant will know what's best for you. I agree it is excellent ,I've learnt so much on here and there's always advice,support and encouragement. Now relax and let your eye heal x

Well done, you got through it. The thought always is worse than the event. That’s our lizard brain protecting us. Good luck on your recovery journey. It goes really quickly. 😊.

Thank you, I was a total scaredy cat, but realise now I didn't need to be. Everyone at the hospital was fantastic. We're so lucky to have the NHS xx
