Hi everyone seems to have been very quiet on the forum hope that is good news! I went to the eye clinic last Friday, my biopsy result was all clear and my eye pressures are down to 10 in each eye! The lowest they have been in 20 years and I don’t have to go back for 6 to 8 months! After having been virtually every two weeks since May I was totally over the moon. Could have danced for joy apart from the fact that I did my back in last week trying to be superwoman! I attempted to lift a weight that the garden waste team refused to take because of the weight of the bin. They said I had to empty it myself which meant lifting to lower on its side. Well in the process my back gave way with resounding snap! My fault totally and now paying the painful consequences. So the best news on one hand and extreme pain on the other! Hope everyone is ok xx
Hi from Sunshine: Hi everyone seems to have been... - Glaucoma UK
Hi from Sunshine
So sorry to hear about your back, but delighted to hear that your eye results were so positive after all the visits. This year the consultant told me he was giving me a holiday for 6 months, so I remember the feeling ....liberation !!
I have a very helpful booklet... 'Treat your own back' by Robin McKenzie ( a Physiotherapist)
There are so many easy exercises some of which can be done even in significant pain. As bending forwards often overstretches the back then bending backwards should often rectify the problem.
Any way do hope it gradually improves, if not ,do get it checked out and a physio may give you some useful exercises.
Fantastic news about your eye pressures and you are spared the hours of waiting in out patients for at least six months - brilliant! Sorry to hear about your back though and hope it recovers quickly xx
Hi, so sorry to hear about your back, but that’s fantastic news that your biopsy was clear and your eye pressures are so low. What a relief that must be, not to mention how good it will be not to have to go to the clinic for months!I hope your back starts to improve soon x
Good news about the eye pressure. Sorry to hear about your back. 😊
Hi Sunshine brilliant news about your eyes!! Hope your back improves soon. Take it easy.
Fantastic News Sunshine88888888 . So happy for you. You did said it was open angle didn’t you. I’m still in meltdown mode at the minute that’s why I’m quiet . Hope your back gets better as well xx
Hi JulieThought you were quiet because you were coping better.
I have got laser for the 2nd time on Tuesday and am very worried it won't work again for me.
Did you have yours done? Hope youre ok.
Everything crossed for you on Tuesday Callie, let us know how you get on. X
Thanks Witchie will let you know how I get on.
Hopefully you will have a good result this time, they must think there's a good chance laser will work this time or surely they wouldn't try. X
I think they are trying everything over again before they go down the route of an op. How are you doing after your trab? X
Yes I guess a they are doing all the less invasive things first before going down the trab route.I actually am still waiting on a date for my second trab, my consultant said a couple of months and that was 3 months ago. I'm not bothered as this is my good eye and I only have minimal vision loss,it's not a priority. It is nice not having to go backwards and forwards to the hospital at the moment. X
Hi callie77 I’ve got mine on the 5th November. Already convinced my other eye has high pressure and they won’t do this eye. Hope all goes well for you xx
Big hugs Julie, you know we are all here for you x
Thankyou Hidden this is why I’ve been quiet. I’m so sorry xx
I hope they do your eye and that your pressure in other lasered eye is down. I know last time you were at the eye clinic it wasn't a good day and so it's more difficult for you to be positive this time. X
Hi Julie, I went last week for my check up at the hospital after 3 months. My pressure had increased to 20 in both eyes from 17 19 the month before (check up just for pressure elsewhere). My doctor is a specialist in glaucoma and she was not worried by this level as my eyesight has not further deteriorated since January... I do still take 1 eye drop monoprost in the night. I know you had a field test and it was fine.. I don't know why they are saying it is a failure at your level of 20... and are reluctant to do the other eye. Hope they give you the slt... in the other eye. take care valerie
Thankyou for your message valfrance . I’m glad your consultant is ok with your pressures that’s good news. I do find it strange about not doing my other eye. I will know more at next appointment on 5th November
Oh Sunshine brilliant news about your eyes I am so happy for you 😘. You have had a heck of a time but it's all come good hurrah 😃 well apart from your back ouch that's not good at all. Have seen a physio or Dr yet or just hoping it will get better on its own ? All good here, busy cajoling my partner into decorating all the downstairs rooms, he's coming round to my way of thinking a room at a time 😃.
Yahoo no eye clinic for you until next year 😂 x
Ah! Brilliant news Sunshine! So pleased for you. Long may this good news continue. I’ve been quiet as I had SLT (went ok so think) this week so been trying to stay off phone and rest my eye…not completely successfully I have to confess!😂
Hope your SLT has been a success, that will be a great early Xmas pressie for you x
I was surprised as they have only done half my mesh work and I go back for the other half to be done in 3 weeks time. I was told my consultant likes to do it in two halves on one eye at a time as he thinks it improves the outcome. I was also surprised that I lost all sight in that eye once they applied the pilocarpine which was a bit scary. The dr thought it was that as the pupil constructed and reduced my vision I was left looking through my central damage which of course is a dark grey haze so it felt like I lost my sight in that eye. Sure enough as we waited an hour to see if my pressures had spiked my vision returned to its normal blurry level again. At least I’m prepared next time this happens though. My IOPs were the same before and after so 14 and 15 so will be interesting to see if the SLT can get them lower. We’ve run out of drop options now as I can’t take beta blockers and I’ve tried most of the other drops available. As my glaucoma is progressing regardless of my lower pressures they want them as low as possible. Fingers crossed! A good result for Christmas would be good as I’m sacrificing my birthday as my next SLT is taking place the morning after my birthday so there won’t be any wild celebrations on that day!😂 How are you and your woofs?
You can have belated birthday celebrations 😊Fingers crossed for you that all goes well and you get a good result 🤞🏻
I’m doing ok thank you .
On Thursday I have my diabetic retina screen where my pupils get dilated , so this will be a test to see if my iridotomy worked .
I could have gone to the opticians I found who was going to do a pressure check and scan for £35 , if I could get to him within the hour after my retina appointment . Though it would mean me changing appointment day as the optician doesn’t work on Thursday.
But I decided to have faith in that my iridotomy was a success . They did say my angles are now open. The reason they did iridotomy and not monitor me was because of the risk of me having retina screens . It was done end of Aug , so I am thinking its still ok, have faith .
I am nervous , will be glad when it’s done .
I did ask the consultant if I did have a closed angle attack after my retina screen , what time frame and he said normally an hour .
Such a shame the eye hospital couldn’t do my retina screen , but they don’t .
Dogs are ok, though Monty was recently diagnosed with heart disease , now on meds . Had a check up , not long ago , things are stable , which vet expected at this stage .
He goes back in Dec , to see how he is doing .
Initially we were told if meds didn’t work 3 months life expectancy , if they work 6-12 months , but he’s said that’s not a definite , also know dogs to go on for years too.
Monty is 14 , but not an old dog imo,
He is also now blind in one eye due to Glaucoma .
Take care and rest eyes and keeps us updated on your progress x
Fantastic news about your eyes 😊, so pleased for you
Sending you healing wishes for your back x
Ah, good news at last, you can now forget about eye worries until next year at least ! Hope your back mends it self soon, good luck.
Great to hear your positive news. I absolutely agree about the need for physiotherapy after a back injury and I do hope this works for you - back pain is miserable! I am waiting for cataract surgery on my right eye on Oct 29th. All the surgery I had earlier this year has made the cataract in this eye much worse and I have been really struggling with my vision. Unfortunately I have also had to stop taking Tiopex in both eyes as I just couldn’t tolerate it any more. The side effects were horrible. This means I have run out of drop options and I need to get the pressure down in my right eye to prevent further damage. My surgeon has said he will do either canaloplasty or an istent at the same time as the cataract. I will find out this Thursday which he has decided on. Has anyone had canaloplasty?
Gosh bless you! It’s never an easy journey I really feel for you after the year I have had so far. Never heard of canaloplasty, however it’s great there is always something else that they have up their sleeve. Hope the appointment on Thursday is really positive, let us know how you get on. Take care x
Brilliant news about the eyes . 10!! I can only dream 🤓
Hope your back gets better soon Sunshine.
Good news about your eyes - really happy for you.
Love Lynne xx
That's great news about your eye pressures my target is 10 and hoping to be at this pressure at next appointment. It's so much better when you don't have to keep going in all the time ay.
So happy that your eyes have reacted so well and your IOP has come down. Hope your back mends soon too
